did I say I hate trueview's?
2nd hair style. VF30 looks like an old old cleaning and retone and should be acceptable however with trueview pics thats a toss-up

I'll say VF-30, possibly VF-25 and straight grade.

I am not sure how one could justify a VF-30+ grade, but VF-20 seems about right to me.

The coin details look better than VF20. Maybe it was net graded because of an old cleaning. I would also be disappointed with a grade of VF20. I would consider cracking it out and sending it to NGC.

Vf20? Note to self, don't bid on raw coins until I get better at my opinion of grading. Guess it's good for me that this section of the forum exists!

Disappointing for sure, but a beautiful example in any event.

can you post in hand photos?
trueview photos must be way off on this one. this coin is not VF20. even an novice can see that. way too much detail there. I have 98 graded VF30 with more wear than this one graded by PCGS. I had this at VF35 and dropped it to VF30 due to trueview which I normally do.
when every CCF member graded this at VF30/35 something is not right. luckily the value difference is not a huge amount...maybe $200.
another example of Grade the coin...ignore the slab

From the (Not So)True Views, that's no 20.

Quote: Well, I guess that means I need to look at more large cents! Nopers. We all need to see more in-hands and less True Views. The True Views make it impossible to know the surface conditions and to assign a net grade accurately. A TV 30 could be a real world 12 and a TV RB could be BN/RD in hand any day. It's just an other day in the TPG casino.

Also would recommend getting a copy of the Early American Coppers Grading Guide book. It's a great resource to grading these challenging coins even a small section on the really tough colonial coinage too. A post listing the book and a neat early copper video by Bill Eckberg. http://goccf.com/t/404457
