I'd also say F-15, very attractive with nice surfaces.

Can't disagree a little bit with any of the above. Super nice F15, very impressive bit of early copper to be sure.

Why does it look so orange? Shouldn't it look more brown? Scrapes in face and hair seem to indicate more recent surface scrapes exposing brighter copper. Is the color in the pics indicative of how the coin looks in hand? The remaining details and the surfaces look great. Issue I have is that it looks like a halloween pumpkin which isn't how I imagine a copper of this age ought to look like.

F12 was my initial grade but I will also bump up to F15.
Outstanding coin! I have to make it up to Fresno some time ;-)

the color of the pics makes me think this coin has been cleaned and recolored. the dark buildup around the obverse devices reinforce this thought. cant tell for sure, but if I were buying it based only on these pics I would make that assumption. could be the pics. whose to say?

i think ithink it has enough meat that I would call it vf20 details

Why does it look so orange?

That would be because of my photography. There is very little orange tint in-hand. Here are adjusted versions of the same images, with color and lighting dialed down. These images are about the closest I can get to the actual in-hand appearance.

I think PCGS was very conservative with the grade. In my experience only a tiny fraction of 1794 Half Cents match the overall eye appeal of this coin. Just my opinion of course!

Reverse is a solid VF. I can agree with the F12 for the obverse only and that's on wear alone.

F15 would be a conservative grade given the good strike and planchet plus the eye appeal.

Thats a nice looking coin and at Fine 12 it definitely is a fine fine coin. You made a fine choice on one good looking coin. Throw out the grade because its worth VF-20 money.

i was curious so I looked up the trueview of your coin. I stand by it having been cleaned. I think they did a bit of net grading to put it into a strait graded holder. it is a really attractive Half Cent. sweet coin.
