@hokiefan, that's one killer matte proof , love the lighter pastel toning of the reverse.

Thanks, Ty2020b! Years ago I preferred untoned coins, but gradually started to be drawn to coins with attractive toning. And Buffalo nickels often tone in fabulous shades of blue, gold and magenta!

this thread is great. I'm really enjoying everyones beautiful coins!

here is a well circulated one that I find very charming. 1796 draped bust cents have pretty poor metal quality so finding them undamaged in a nice chocolate color is a challenge. they frequently exhibit weakness on the periferies on one side or the the other. the leading theory as to why that happens is that something about the blank cutting tool was causing them to be slightly curved.

1796 S-97 R-3 (one of the most common '96 draped busts)

That 1796 cent is a very attractive example, CarrsCoins, even though worn. Nice consistent color and no real distractions. Early copper cents and half-cents have been one of the biggest challenges for my type set, and I still have a number of holes to fill there. Finding problem-free and attractive examples in the grades on my want list has been very tough...

I'm really enjoying all the contributions to this thread. Lots of eye candy on display!

I have a lot of really nice classic coins with great eye appeal (especially all the classic proofs I have purchased over the years), but the cream of the crop will always be the coin I use as my avatar:

@barryg, the past few years I've been picking up a lot of classic proofs, and I'm partial to those with attractive toning on the near-pristine surfaces. Your proof Morgan is a beauty!
