too much light but the coin looks at least MS64 probably 65 depending on what the luster looks like. you have good sharp focus on it so if you could avoid any overhead lighting or flash. maybe a window sill on a cloudy day. try a couple things just not direct or overhead light. many phones now can take decent photos with very little light.

The surfaces are dull and indicative of seeing circulation. The wheat lines also seem a little worn.

I tend to agree with BadThad , AU-58 and I don't believe it came out of an original OBW roll . Were all the rest of the coins in that roll 1943 steelies ? If not then I'm sure the roll came from the bank which came from a distributer like Garda ,etc .

I'm away from home right now, but did folks "replate" these pennies? My mother's estate had a number of 1943 PDS pennies that "just didn't look right" I may have given them away, I was afraid as mom didn't have much coin sense.

Quote: did folks "replate" these pennies? yes and quite few of them. they are easily differentiated from an original. they look almost like a mirror. very shiny. if you look at regular one like yours it is more of a lustrous matte finish. heres an example

Quote: Looks original in these pics. Sorry buddy but I still say this coin did not come out of an original OBW roll . Coin looks dull ,no luster ; coins skin is just not right to be original .

T-bop - maybe I'm using wrong term? Purchase a unopened roll with markings from a San Francisco bank . bought it for the end coin 1957 Flying eagle. Not fed reserve roll. what term should use? TY for your help.

still too much glare from light. try just using your phone. I agree with T-Bop based on your photo it appears the surfaces are not original
1. turn off flash 2. place coin on flat surface with indirect natural light. maybe a window sill in a cloudy day 3. move phone about 3in from coin 4. zoom in using your fingers until the coin comes into focus 5. hold phone steady. if you cant then place something on either side of the coin (like books) at that distance and lay phone between them. this will hold it steady and allow you to zoom and take the photo without any blurring

TY for your help. Ok now I completely understand . You bought a teaser roll probably from e-Bay thinking there could be some goodies in it . classic scam . Again , nice 43 steelie but not original BU .
