Cleaning coins will really hurt the value if not done properly. Best to leave it be.

to the CCF.

Set aside any thoughts about cleaning the coin - that will only ruin any potential numismatic value.

Show us photos of both sides then we can help with value.

Do not jump straight into cleaning your coins.

Post some photos so we can help further.

1889-Penny-Found-From-Amazon. Bought a pack of 57 wheat pennies, 2 steel pennies, and 2 Indian heads, feel lucky I got this.

It doesn't matter so much if you clean this coin, because the value is very low.

Someone's already tried to clean it. Very little value left.

I agree with the others, this coin has been fried.

That one is pretty rough unfortunately, still a lot of history there though. If you are interested in Indian Head cents you can get many dates in nice circulated condition for very little money. They make a nice collection.

to explain what people are talking about and help you identify damage and cleaning in the future -

someone wiped the surface of this coin with something abrasive. that action scratched the coins surface. those scratches are often called hairline scratches. hairlines are usually the result of someone using improper technique to try and clean a coin. scratches of any kind are called post mint damage or PMD. damage is bad. undamaged coins are good. dont clean coins or you will damage them.

as a general rule the coins that are the most prized by the advanced collectors are those with little or no wear and no damage. a damaged coin can still be fun, or cool and many still have financial value. damaged coins will always be less desirable than the coins with original patina and original surfaces. the ideal coin is well struck on a quality blank with no wear and no damage of any kind.
