I would expect the 'wood effect to show on both sides if it were that prominent on the reverse.

Looks like it might have been stored in something like this donations card for March of dimes. I have a dime somewhere with similar toning.

I agree not really a woody , nice MS coin ; Something layed across reverse to cause that upper toning .

Thanks for adding comments my friends. I guess I didn't do such a great job of capturing the improper mix. I finally managed to get some nice closeups of the improper mix. The obverse streaks around LIBERTY do correspond correctly to the dark streaks on the reverse. On this new reverse image, above ES (STATES), where it crosses the right wheat and exits the rim there is a lite linear separation of the two metals causing the coloration. Also a stronger and wider one in the field next to the T (CENT). Some of the more subtle color difference from the improper mix is visible on the obverse as well on his shoulder, the field behind his head, and at the point of the bust and rim to the date. I'm guessing the darker color is mostly copper that oxidized faster than the correct mixture. (Thanks again for helping me get better with your insights.) Let me know if the new images help.

Nice photos. This coins it is no woody coin. I will do an XRF on both parts of the coin to see exact. The strait line of the toning questions me. I wait for the XRF.

Pete, I find a lot of cents in the 50s that are this yellow, gold color. Not as much as this one. Some both sides, some only one side. I mark them up to improper mix also.

Yes, it's a woody. Many of my best woody examples came from the 1930s. A few very close to this one, Very nice.

Thanks for the additional comments and for preserving my sanity. LOL (I was thinking I was losing my mind when I first posted and no one saw what I could see in hand.)
The colors didn't translate well in the images because it really looks MS red except where the darker metal gives it the slight RB effect (or the dramatic darker contrast of course.)

However you decide to assign the color variations it is indeed a lovely looking coin.

It is a woody. Look at the outside edge to see if the color is normal all away around the coin? There should be a color change on that outside edge of the coin, showing how much the the color change thick is on that area, The other fading colors tells me it is a woody.

Thanks Coop.
I feel it came to my poor images initially, not showing the contrast properly.
I am appreciative of everyone who took the time to comment on this one because it reminded me once again to slow down and get it right from the outset.
