Cool find! I would agree with -makecents- and Dearborn. Appears to be raised material from die strike of which ever letter was dropped. I wouldn't think an acetone bath would have any effect and hopefully will get rid of the "gunk". IMHO

Thanks! The feature is definitely incuse. I think it is more likely that if this is a filling, it fell out of the obverse (hammer) die and rested on the anvil die. In this case, I don't believe it is from "of" even though it is near to it. Either the U in TRUST or possibly the bottom part of S in TRUST seems a logical source.

May be, CoinHI. Both that are shown on Error Ref, are on the reverse, from the reverse. To me, the size and shape, more resembles the "o". Just my opinion though.

Seems spacing inside the "U's is to narrow for this drop? I'm going to stick with the "O". Still just MHO and it's still a cool find. If you do the acetone let us know how that goes.

If it was a strike through dropped letter, it wouldn't be incused. It would be struck into the field and even with the surface of the coin.

I think this is describing a "struck in" dropped letter.

I was thinking more the "o" from oF, with the filling tapering as it went.

After looking at a different angle, I'm starting to see the "o" as well. It seems more round here.

Ok, I got some crud off and now I believe you can see the upper (or lower) arc of the "o" in the bottom stem of "F". Thanks for the direction on this from the replies.

Ok, last photo and I believe the best one yet. I am thrilled with this error though the condition is not the best.

That is a cool error. I would assume that is pretty rare.
