to the CCF I agree with a deep scratch post mint that raised the two edges seen along that central trough.
Take a look at my other hobby ... http://www.jk-dk.art

Given the pics posted, I'm seeing post-strike damage--scratches, nicks, and dings.

If you do not believe this is a scratch, then please explain how this could happen during the striking of the coin.

Trust the experts here, it is a scratch. Sorry. I am not an expert but I see it as a scratch as well.

Damage is damage. A die issue would be raised, and not incuse if it were a die crack. An attempt to create a die error. (Not saying it was your creation, but the mind set to try to make something that looks like a mint error)

if that anomaly is raised, it is considered to be from a die event, such as a die chip

Too bad it's just a scratch. I was going to name it "Weeping Tom".

if in a sandbox, you smooth the sand until it is perfectly level, then run a stick through the sand, you'll get a long trough in the sand, plus sand mounded up parallel on both sides of the trough, that looks like what this nickel has under both of Tom's eyes, actually

The OP also posted this nickel on the PCGS Forum and was insisting it is an error. His insistence didn't go over to well Quote: Sorry to be blunt... Either listen to the experts or move on. The people that have responded to you have been studying coins for probably collectively over 100 years... That's just between the ones who have already responded. They know what they are talking about.
I've only been at this for a little over 6 months and even I can tell you that is post mint damage, such as a sharp instrument, that created that scratch. It is not an error except by human hands long after it left the mint.
You should do some more studying on what die chips and die cracks are so you can better tell them apart Maybe he should have listened to us.
