to CCF!
Very nice find for sure. The feature to the bottom of the 6 is something I've seen on other years as well. Wonder if this is a break that does occur to the die or just a common point for PMD?

Thanks for the close-up sanfu.

The bottom of the curve on the 6 has a curved section missing. This is, I think, identical to the one I have. Such an identical 6 makes me think it is an error and not PMD.

The Cud "BIE" is in an early stage or the mark that can be seen might have dislodged it. Not sure about that part.

There is a mark on the T on Cent on mine as well, but it is not in the same direction as yours. It really just looks like PMD. Each of the marks present direction flowas found in a strike from PMD.

A full image of the coin's reverse might tell us more. Wheat cents from the 50s typically have cracks and chips on the reverse as well.

Here is an example ijn1944. I don't think there are any die issues on this one, but it might help sanfu for comparison.

Nice BIE try to find it on http://cuds-on-coins.com/ The 6 is called a broken 6. There were a lot of these in 56.

On the bottom of the '6' that is from a broken working hub issue. The raised device on the hub (Raised just like on the coin) it was damaged and chipped away on the working hub. This can be seen on many different dies that year. So when a chip breaks off of a working hub, the devices will not there there on the die:

Thus while these chipped areas are rare events on the hubs, there is not a premium for them. They can be markers for dies, but not a premium for these.

These sometimes will be listed with the broken hub issue, other times not mentioned. That this is what happened to caused that device to be altered.
