It does certainly have a similar pattern to the first or second row of feathers, or perhaps the leaves in the left talons. It doesn't seem to match any features of JFK's face or the obverse, so I am also curious to learn why it could be a die clash.

Could be damage from another coin from the same year. Thus the damage was transferred to this coin. Not a premium it the coin is just post struck damaged. The shield is also show some damage there as well.

When a clash has design elements from the same side it might be a counterclash. (Type one and type 2)
Here is the link to Type 1: https://www.error-ref.com/counterclash_type_i/

Here is the link to Type 2:

If a counterclash, yours would be a Type 2. "Every coin struck afterward shows raised, normally-oriented design elements in an unexpected location."

(I'm not saying this coin has a counter clash but that anomaly gives the idea some credibility.)

coop, the OP said the feature is raised. If it had been struck by another coin, the feature should be indented, correct? Just trying to learn, errors are quite new to me.

If it slid, it should have forced some metal up. But also note the damage on the shield as well. These are heavier coins and can alter each other in just contact of at the right angle.

@COOP

There are no abrasions to indicate it being struck and if it were to be bag marks the anomaly in question is larger than what the measurement is on Reeds of a Kennedy half dollar along with the void down the middle which would also be created by the wings and not by the edge of a coin

Thank you for that information and I think you're right if it is it would be type two dye clash due to a piece of the die being left over.
I wrote them an email explaining the coin and everything and told them where they can view the coin hopefully they'll let me send it in for confirmation.
Thanks again

Fascinating. This appears to be die damage from a piece that broke off the working face of the collar (not necessarily this collar). There are other possibilities. I'd like to examine it in person and possibly write it up for Coin World.

Neat find, I look forward to seeing what Mike's conclusions are on this coin (if the OP sends it to him).

@Dearborn
Message has been sent.

After looking at the coin some more The damage on the shield actually looks like The neck feathers of the eagle and the anomaly in question actually has another one and a half marks on it going to the left and down it's a darker area so not quite as visible and not raised very much if at all it's just a... I want to say impression but that wouldn't be it lol
And thank you for pointing me in the right direction

I finally had the opportunity to examine this 1964 half dollar with its zig-zag ridge. The area around the ridge is slightly flattened and lacks details seen in other feathers. This is consistent with post-strike damage or alteration. A disappointing outcome, to be sure.

Thanks Mike (and FreshFind for sending it to him).
Definitely a disappointing result, but it is what it is.
