Yes, that is it! When I read the topic title, I was like, "Who?" But it popped as soon as Hokie mentioned COINage magazine.

I have to say, a well earned retirement.

My god, he's been around since I was a kid, it seems.

Beymer had been selling coins since 1967, which wasn't long before I started collecting as a little kid!

Indeed. I remember his ads in COINage always mentioned how long he'd been advertising there, and I know it was around his 53rd year when I saw his last advertisement there some months back.

Here's the interview with Seth Chandler making the announcement back in April.

Met him at Central States beck in the 90s - small, tidy man, kind of reserved as I remember.

By the way, here's the link to the auction of coins from Jack Beymer's personal collection.

Unfortunately, I've never met him but my dealings with him were always pleasant. He remained "old school"; his website didn't have pics of the coins, only an extensive inventory list. However, I found he was quite conservative in his grading of raw coins, so though his prices sometimes seemed a bit high, you knew you were not going to get an overgraded coin.

Most of my purchases I made from him were before I started buying only certified coins around 2012 or so. I think I bought around 40 coins from him over a several year period after I got back into collecting in 1999. He sold type coins (date of his choice) in a variety of grades at the time, and those were the bulk of my purchases. I actually bought my first certified coin from his, as well!

I got a bust type dollar from him in 2002; I remember I ordered one graded Good, but he sent me one in a higher grade (VG-F) but with a couple minor marks in the obverse field. He said at the time that he didn't have any in stock in Good, and if I wasn't happy I could return it. It took me about 2 seconds to decide to keep it!

Now that's old school! Go above and beyond for the customer. Maybe lose a few bucks on the deal, but then you have a customer for life. (I was going to say you don't see this anymore, but a few months ago I decided to cancel my Netflix subscription. The guy on the phone asked me why, and I said because I never use it. He said, no problem, and then proceeded to refund me for the previous three months! Just to be nice.)

I never received a coin from him that wasn't choice for the grade, both in terms of detail and appearance.

Looks like 4th quarter 2022 was his last ad in BCCS journal. He'd been advertising there for a long time.

Yes, I was a bit surprised. The bust dollar he sent me MAY have received a details grade if I'd sent it in to be graded, but I never did. The marks in the obverse field looked like a couple small faint scratches, but weren't really noticeable. I sold it raw about 10 years afterwards and was quite happy with what I got for it.

Me either, Coinfrog. I was never disappointed in any of my sight-unseen purchases from him. I sold the bulk of my raw coins around 2014 to a dealer who I did a lot of business with at the time. I well remember seeing many of the coins from Beymer, including some gold type coins, later show up in PCGS or NGC holders in that dealer's inventory. I had pics of the coins so I knew which ones had been mine. There were none graded lower than what Beymer had advertised, and several I'd bought as XF were actually slabbed with an AU grade. Sort of made me wish at the time I'd had them certified myself...

Those pattern dollars from Jack are exceptional.
