Why is there no gold Eagle for the 2028 LA Olympics? I am sure that Donna Pope would have made a different decision.

@sel: The US primarily issues Gold Half Eagles in its commemorative programs these days. The proposed LA28 commemorative coin program includes a Half Eagle ($5.00 coin).

For posterity... Quote: ...born October 15, 1931, Donna Pope, died peacefully at her home in Colorado on June 23, 2023, with her daughter at her side. Pope, originally from the Cleveland area, was the 33rd Director of the U.S Mint, being appointed twice by Ronald Reagan, for whom she was an unwavering champion. Pope was instrumental in the renewal of U.S. Commemorative Coins and the creation of the American Eagle Gold and Silver investment coins... https://obits.cleveland.com/us/obit...?id=52372912

@General Sherman: Quote: I wonder why she didnt change the nickel to steel or was it only recently that the mint director can change the composition of our coinage Any change in the composition would first have required authorization from Congress. This is the same today, Though bills have been introduced in Congress that would give the Director of the US Mint the authority to change coin compositions, based on study results, the bills have not been passed or become US law.yet,

From This, We Now Have a Series that has a Strong History, 39 Years and Going Very, Very Strong....... Her Help in " Altering " the Mostly Copper Lincoln Memorial cent into a New Composition We Now Have, Disintegrating/ Disappearing Coins. People Tend to Recall, Only The Last Good Things Others did ..... GILLY, Nice Job, Thanks for bringing this to Our Attention,.. PS, Thought I saw the Dated of Her Passing to be JUNE 23, 2023. ?
