Odd he would be carrying an old Horse Blanket around in 1947!

Nice note and nice story. It needs to be in a Mylar holder along with the backstory written down.Is there a way to verify the signature?

Coinfrog, I always wondered about that too - seemed a bit too handy to me, especially as I got older and started learning about how long it had been since large notes had been in common circulation. I do know that at another point Snyder gave my grandfather a $20 gold piece from 1891 because that was his birthday. That's gone, unfortunately. Who knows if this story about this note (told to me as a kid 60 years ago) is completely true - if it's not, it oughtta be. That said, the note exists; it's Snyder's signature without doubt and my grandfather worked with him as long as he was Sec Treas. Seems like he left in early '48, but I'm not sure. My grandfather left in Fall of '48, I think.

I have to say it's really nice to find a community that has the knowledge to appreciate this story. I know my grandfather would get a kick out of it all these years later. Been meaning to post this - glad I did.

Blastenpene4 - your note is more valuable than you believe. As a collector of signatures and silver certificates the fact that you have the most common silver certificate w/a Secretary of Treasury "certifying" it over the banter with his under secretary makes this note unique. In the condition you present I would purchase this note w/validation of signature and validation your grandfather as under secretary. I would display that note and re-tell your grandfathers story on your family's behalf. If you decide to sell, please consider me as a buyer.
