My first thought was struck through a mid stage die cap. Thanks, Doug.

It's real, and a dandy! These have the double impact of great eye appeal as well as effectively seeming like a tails/tails coin and tend to go for pretty good money.

John1, I don't have the auction saved on ebay so not sure of current bid/price...Dearborn might have it. After doing research on Brockage coins I found several that look just like this one, graded by NGC and they are listed as "Brockage Die Cap Strike". however there are quite a few different types and looks for these. Still learning about them.

It's brockage from a die cap that hasn't been hit too many times just starting to expand but with most of the details still on it and intact. The coin sold for just under $50, which is a great price for the coin. Should have been more like $70.

I don't buy too many coins, but this one might have found a new home for $70..
