I don't know Mr. Berk nor have I been to Chicago. I have had pleasant experiences in every coin shop I have ever visited. I have never been in a coin shop big enough to have several employees behind the counter helping people. My shops are usually me and the owner one on one. Now, I have had very rude experiences with a couple of different dealers at the major shows out here in California. I won't deal with those guys again because I don't believe they have the best interest of the customer in mind. They were just looking for the guy that wanted to spend the most dollars and to me, that's pretty sad

I read the other thread & see some legitimate points there. I'm a little bit picky about who I deal with, a dealer(or employee) being rude is enough to cause me to go elsewhere. I don't have a problem with someone selling cleaned coins unless they represent them as problem free. I've found that even high priced dealers will occasionally have something I want/need at a price I'm willing to pay. I'm pretty cheap so most prices seem high to me, that keeps me from buying a lot of coins but doesn't stop me from looking.

I'm a little torn here. My own personal experience with HJB, online only, has been completely satisfactory over many transactions. On the other hand, I believe and sympathize with just carl's poor experience with them. Poor customer service is plenty enough reason to avoid a business.

I've ordered from HJB many times and have been happy with their service everytime. Their prices are a little high but other than that I've been happy.

okie: Are you planning on giving the same publicity to all the other coin dealers and shops? As I mentioned that was my experience with the place you mentioned. Now to be fair, you should start a post about each of the other coin stores, coin shops, coin dealers in the World. A few good deals here and there should have the same coverage. I'm not sure why one dealer should be given special attention here or on any coin forum. Just my Opinion.

Quote: I'm not sure why one dealer should be given special attention here or on any coin forum. Because they are a quality online source for coins. My limited experience with them has been favorable. I also can't think of many other world coin sites in the US that have similar variety, fair grading and pictures of most of their inventory. I'll cast my vote with HJB in this case.

Looks like you are in the minority here Carl. You started this whole discussion with negative publicity about Berk in another post. I just wanted to see if others felt the same. When I started the post I had no idea whether the responses would be good or bad. Furthermore, it is important to all of us as collectors to share our experience with other dealers both good and bad. We help each other that way. I have recommended Berk in the past to new collectors. After your post on Going To Chicago I started wondering if I gave bad advice. I am sure you aren't trying to limit the subjects that I post about. Just like you, within the moderator's guidelines, I can post about any numasmatic subject that is of interest to me.

I have purchased from HJB many times and have always been pleased with each purchase. If a coin is cleaned I know it before I purchase because it seems he has better eyes than I have because a few coins I have bought was labeled lightly cleaned and it was so lightly I couldn't tell even with a microscope. I have talked with them on the phone as well as through emails and have always had a pleasant experience with them even gotten all my questions answered that I have asked in a pleasant manner so as I said I have purchased from them and will do so in the future

As far as I am concerned this thread is pretty much gone as far as it needs to, even though I started it. Much to do about little. I feel a little loyalty to Berk because of my numerous good experiences. I do think their stock of US coins is well pictured and described and fairly priced. Nevertheless, I don't doubt Carl's stated experiences at the counter. One clerk's rudeness can greatly influence an opinion about any business, wheter it is justified or not. Peace.
