LDS. Looks even later die state than the example on variety vista. More die erosion below the chin, back of neck, hair, and in the back of the Buffalo below EPU.

I'm hesitant to call it FS-101. Looks more like lighting playing tricks. Not the same spread on the base of the 3 that you'd typically see with the DDO. Better images will confirm

I'm with Zurie, would not be cost effective to conserve and reholder.

I'll update with images once in hand. Hope you're wrong Ty but I always trust your judgement.

If it is not FS-101 I'm going to have to crack it out and address the Verdigris.

If it is FS-101 I'll send it in to NGC for reholder, attribution and NCS cleanup.

Did some light sleuthing and found the GC images from this one. Based on this pic, not FS-101 IMO. Just Die Deterioration causing some mushiness.

Dang, I don't recall that photo being shown on the side bar when I first located. Certainly a more definitive shot - thanks for tracking it down.

Nice coin nonetheless but the corrosion presents a dilemma. I know I can eliminate but cracking the slab - which needs to happen - would kill any value without the DDO. I have yet to use my monthly free return, might just have to punt on this one. Thanks for the help on this one Ty.

A punt sounds good if you are able to. If it weren't for the verdigris spot it wouldn't be as big a deal. But given the spot and LDS, it'd be two strikes and a return in my book. But that's just me, not trying to rain on the parade!

It might be the lighting, but I still think it looks promising, especially the L in LIBERTY. Let us know when it arrives. Good luck!

I'll be sure to post updated images once in hand. What is interesting is that the LDS markers appear to be there.

FortCollins used to be the expert with barfalos but we haven't heard from him in a long time.

After some delivery snafus I finally have this coin in hand and had an opportunity to analyze. Unless someone sees it differently, I'm now convinced that lighting and a post-LDS mush strike was creating an illusion. This is not a FS-101. I'll be initiating a return based on the corrosion spot.

The die clashing is there under the chin ? - albeit extremely weak when compared to the LDS markers.

Unfortunate it didn't work out, but glad you're able to return.

There's a handful of Buffalo varieties that are tough to cherry pick from images. Lighting and shadows create some annoying effects. Too many times I've bought from images that I was sure were the variety I thought, only to be let down once in hand.

One of the tougher is the 1913 DDR-002 FS-1802. Lighting always throws off the doubling in EPU. I probably purchased a dozen I thought were the DDR before I actually got a winner. Makes completing a full variety set challenging!

Keep hunting!

Not deterred - only more determined. You called it and I always appreciate your opinion. GC had no issue with a return, I'm out $4 (return shipping) which I'll happily pay for the opportunity.
