Definitely worth grading. Make sure you use NGC / PCGS variety attribution service since there is already a Snow number.

Looks mid-high AU to me. Can't get a feel for the surfaces very well.

Some kind of collar issue?
Obverse strike where it counts is strong.
Reverse strike from 11-3 a little soft...maybe collar related or just a soft strike...?
If the open fields are really that nice and there's still some luster...

The copper nickel cents were hard. This one has a great strike. It could be MS. Top of the shield is the only place with some striking weakness.

I just looked at the photos you posted on the link John1 provided. Looks like an MS-63 to me.

I do not see where this "variety" um is it actually a variety? Anyway, I do not see that I will get an attribution for this "spiked ear" ODD-001/snow 8..... I will again admit that I am in extremely uncharted waters doing the dog paddle but it appears to my completely green eyes that it will just be a regular ole 1862 penny when I send it in. True? Thoughts?

And THANK YOU ALL SO MUCH!!! I have learned a great deal these last few days with all of you. A great forum.

It is a Snow 8 Variety. You most definitely will get an attribution if you want one. It is a sought after variety. I've only seen two in all the years I've looked, yours and mine. Your coin will have a nice premium attached to it should you ever sell it.

even with these photos the coin looks MS. i'll go with MS63 only because the I can't see the luster properly
