I really thought I had one but that's the way it goes. Not one other 1972 I looked at had those markings.

I agree with the master die doubling on IGWT and LIBERTY but I kind of like what I see on the 2 and there are no matches listed. I would like to here what Tanman and tropicalbats think about this one.

I just read what I posted and did not mean to exclude others from posting there thoughts on my idea. I just know that Tanman is an attributer and tropicalbats actually has similar listed coins. I would love to hear what others think about these areas.

Since it is on the top of the numbers and the mint mark,I think it is MD.

John, I agree, as I have marked it up, the red is MD. It's the yellow arrows that I'm looking at as possibly being something else.

I see the MDD as well the MD. Also think I see DD with markers and mint mark location that seem to match up with Coppercoins 1972S-1DO-004 description. The MD maybe messing things up a bit. Thanks, Doug.

The features at the yellow arrows are related to the master die doubling.

Not seeing a doubled die on this one, certainly not DDO-003.

Thank you, sir! I was not aware of that. I'm familiar with it being on LIBERTY and IGWT but did not know it showed on the date too. Learned something new today.

I decided to keep this one clearly marked as master die doubling because out of 30+ 1972 pennies only this one had those markings. More or less a talking piece.

I think that is an excellent idea. If you were to look closer, I think you may find that some of the others have the master die doubling also. Die stage and condition of the coin have a lot to do with how well it shows. I mostly bank roll search, so I don't see many in the condition of your coin and maybe why I did not know the doubling showed that well on the date.
A very good example.
