I think the profile pic's look good . . . but I still agree that they look like tokens. They're not busy enough or something. They remind me of some chocolate coins my wife just bought me, haha.

The coins look alright, but the concept itself is pretty lame. I think the US mint has demonstrated a lack of creativity with their coinage over the past 50 years.

I don't see why the need to make them look golden like the Sac's just because they can.

I think it was to make them easier to recognize, and not make them into "Bush quarters"

A 26.5mm Dollar coin has to be golden-colored to avoid the
infamous "Carter Quarter" problem of the SBA's. Last year,
I got two SBA's in change as if they were Quarters.

It is too bad that the SBA wasn't 28mm in diameter....

The George Washington Dollar won "Most Popular Coin" in the Coty-Awards 2009, this is from the Krause people!

You realise you've seen that ancient Rhodian coin design right here on the forum, I hope?
Yes, it looked familiar Is that one also of Helios? I agree for your reasons that high relief just isn't practical anymore. And without that depth, the president's faces look mashed, which perhaps explains why portraits in profile are so prevalent over many centuries.

I think also, that the "non-collecting" public will not know about them just like the SBA and Sacagawea dollars. And by these people, they will save them, and not use them, because they think they are rare or worth something in numismatic value.

I think the Sacagawea dollars looked better in the gold tone than the Presidential dollars. Maybe they should release a silver Presidential dollar in high relief for collectors.

I agree with you all. I guess they probably would have ended up the same as the SBA's. Didn't consider that. It's too bad really. If they made them the size of the Ikes nobody would use them then either. Quite a quandary. I still think they look like tokens also. They have just truly run out of good ideas.

While I decided I would still collect the series, I decided not to worry about getting each mint mark.
Same here. I saw no point for me to collect them by mint mark since it is not visible when they are put into an album.

Of course, there would be "a little" more to be excited about "IF" these were heavily circulated coins !
If/when the $1.00 F.R.N is ended and these become widely used and the Uncirc'c and Proofs attain a fair value.....then MAYBE the interest level would/will be higher. But to turn out BILLIONS of them with near ZERO circulation just isn't "attractive" at all to most coin collectors I would think.
So, "that" is what I would start with first......then the design....well.....I think they're just "okay", but a fairly decent good idea. Nobody was EVER going to "love" every Presidents design, so that was going to be a given anyway.
But I would have like to have seen "silver versions" of these minted though. Or just "something" to set them apart from the normal "circulated" versions. (the Proofs don't look that much different from the Unciculated ones or even the Bank rolls !........)
Dunno.....it just seems that the "special factor" isn't there with these like they could have/should have been due to all of these reasons mentioned.

I agree with eaglefoot. There was such a lot of interest in the State Quarters series and yet not in these.

A larger coin, A different colour to the rest, a good subject, and yet....
