Looking at the shield and all the detail in both Liberty and the Eagle, this looks VF-30 straight grade to me.

I'm at VF20. there are quite a few scratches on the left side of the obv. and through the body. if they are on the coin they do not look they are all in the same direction which is a plus and may rule out a harsher type cleaning. TPG's may be lenient on this due to the date but would probably net it down if they don't details it. if you are seeing the pinkish coloring on both sides, like the photos are showing, this may indicate an old cleaning. it could be lighting, it could be photos altering the surfaces a little so again an in-hand assessment is needed. it definitely has retoned if it was in fact cleaned I'm not sure i'd buy her raw unless I could return it

Quote: Here's what F-15 looks like on the PCGS grading site.
Nope, here is what an F15 looks like on the PCGS grading scale - direct screen grab from PhotoGrade. And what follows is the PCGS screengrab for VF30

If I am a buyer of the coin having to grade it through the plastic, I am not paying over F12 price. The coin has an upside of getting into a TPG holder at VF20, but hard to tell with the white scratches that appear to be on the plastic. The example has had an old cleaning, but is it market acceptable to get a straight grade?

I posted the wrong one also. Here is a VF-25 23-S from PCGS. I'm revising my grade down to VF-25.

IGE - no, just off photograde. they don't distinguish types in photograde

DOCC - T1 and T-2 SLQs are graded differently in the marketplace. I don't care how, or what, Photograde depicts or says. The varieties are completely different.

OP - your coin appears to be between F and VF. All depends what it looks like in hand, who's grading it and what day it is.

DOCC - I think from the 1917 T-2 up thru 1924 they are graded a little more loosely. The 1921 and 1923 coins are particularly "awful". It's tough to find uniform and appealing coins for this series. Buy em when you find em!

Thank you for all your expert opinions. In my non-expert comparisons with graded coins (and my very biased opinion) I have found similar examples with PCGS grades from f15 to vf30 so that is in line with your opinions. The cleaning question is what concerns me the most because that can really affect the value of a coin. The cost of this coin would be $700 which would be in line with about an f15 according to my 2023 Red Book. And if it is a vf25 then it could be worth $1000. Thanks again and any additional insights would certainly be welcome.

comparing the VF25 photo IGE posted to the OP's it doesn't quite make the grade imo. the lettering and devices on the 25 are just a little sharper. as westernsky stated. Quote: your coin appears to be between F and VF. All depends what it looks like in hand, who's grading it and what day it is. you can't go by photograde as the end all be all. you can get into the ballpark but thats about it and above all you can't go by just one component to grade a coin. drives my crazy. we have proven this time and time again.
