1996-P Lincoln Cent With What I Called Fatty Letters

I think it's due to Die Deterioration.

The thing is that yes the letters are a little flat but they are also very fat.

I have a quarter where all the letters are very fat obverse and reverse.

If the forum allows me, I can upload pictures of that one in this thread too. Please let me know.

Looks like a partial Ridge Ring in that area.

Partial Ridge Ring, along with this area is a weak spot on the Lincoln series. When the planchet is a little underweight, the shoulder on the obverse robs metal from the reverse to fill in. So the metal just fills the bottom of the die where the letters are wider. Making it look like they are wider, but they are not.

Im going to make another new post with my quarter I mentioned before. But the quarter have all letters In God We Trust on the obverse and South Carolina on reverse fatter.

Just extreme deterioration. I actually posted one to show a good example of a very deteriorated die and I think it's from the same die as yours.
