They struck 34,200 of the 1909-O half eagles and they must have gone somewhere! Seems like a decent chance this coin could be one. Please let us know the result of your submission.

I usually check all the raw "1909-D" half eagles I see at coin shows, just in case a New Orleans coin was mis-identified.

I have found a couple worn 1909-O Barber quarters that were mistakenly identified as Denver coins.

The PCGS online price guide shows a value of $9000 USD for an XF40. As always, each coin stands on its own merits and can vary either way —- up or down. Eye appeal, strike and other factors can weigh in. A 1909-O $5 Indian that has a strong mintmark is valued more than one with a weak mintmark (like the OP's coin has). Still, his coin is worth a lot and is a wonderful find.

Congrats on a great find and the grade.

Looks like auction results for XF45 @ PCGS is in the $6000-$7000 range, going back to 2021 though.
