That would be FFD ( Feeder Finger Damage) Notice how it is on the lowest part of Lincoln's profile. (which is the highest part on the die) You can also see in on the field right in front of the face too.

Now I wonder is the 1997 dime I posted is in fact feeder damage as well.

These are only die scratches, just like the dime you are asking about.

Feeder fingers scratch the "surface" of the dies - they don't dig into the devices that are lower (incuse) than the surface. I was going to say that is a result of die polishing as you can see the back of Lincoln's neck is gone too.

I would say...oh heck YES...best to read through it before someone even starts to look at coins.

Well defiantly did that backwards. But try not to upload nonsense but lets be honest its quite a bit.

Funny thing is I do have 6 books and in coin room on 1 wall is stapled print outs from error ref.

But if I read everything before starting to collect I would probably die as there is sooooooooooooo much.
