Real Nice, definitely not the "hub doubling" version.

People, please quit using the term "hub doubling" in any situation other than a doubled die, because that is what "hub doubling" is, a doubled die, which is what the OP has. I think what you guys are referring to is a "doubled hub", which is something totally different, not a good thing, because a doubled hub means there are several hundreds of thousands of them out there. Now, the 72's have what is called a "doubled master die", of which there are several million of out there, this is REALLY not good. Please learn the correct terminology, as this makes it tougher for the new folks to learn correctly. I have told certain "higher ups" on more than one occasion to quit doing this and it does not seem to take. Please Moderator that keeps using this term incorrectly, quit....

Thanks again for the positive comments. I appreciate the clarification Makecents. I admit that I just can't seem to get the term right. Variety Vista has a pretty good explanation about the subject when researching attribution for the 1972 cent. I have 5 of the 9 listed and may have others in my old 72 penny bag.

Very nice that you have found that many of them, I have only found 003 and 008, I typically do not count the ones beyond 008, as they are thought to possibly be re-engraved dies, the doubled 2's, that is.

As for my other statement about the hub doubling, doubled hubs and master die doubling, they are all different things and I just get tired of seeing them used incorrectly, as it sets a bad precedence for folks that are new to the Coin World, trying to learn. It perpetuates in a very bad way. At some point I will make a very simple diagram that explains each thing I am referring to and post it, maybe it will be made a "sticky" that they will keep for reference....

With so many of the "double hub" 72 cents being presented as "doubled die on ebay and other sites, it's good to know the process and terminology. Hope to see your "sticky" soon. Thanks again.

If you come across 004 you will be very pleased.

I'm glad Makecents pointed out about "Hub Doubling" being a doubled die.
I'm surprised "Hub doubling" seemed to be considered by some folks as non-collectable.
His comments saved me some ink.
