That is a very nice looking 1896-S.
The obverse shows just a little more wear than the reverse, especially on the cotton blossoms and leaves. I see PCGS coming in at VF-30 here.

This looks like a very nice example. I'm somewhere in the 20-25 range.

w/FC that the rev is tad stronger. Obv VF25 Rev VF30. when I have a split grade and there is only one grade difference I go with the obv so I'm at VF25

Here it is! I thought this would be a tricky one from the photos, can't really see the luster. This coin has lots of luster remaining around the devices, exactly what you would expect for an XF coin. I think this one must of been a weaker strike, because the details on the devices does look more VFish in spots, especially in pictures.

I'll quietly grab my dunce cap, slink off into mu designated corner of Morgan Kindergarten, stare at the wall, write "I will not talk in class" 500 times, and be quiet.

I'm completely shocked by the grade reveal! And with a green bean no less. Obviously, PCGS and CAC see something here that I do not. Admittedly, I'm no authority on the 96s Morgans, but SF coins are generally known for sharp strikes.
