It appears to be a high AU impaired Matte proof. It should straight grade from what can be seen.

The early proofs are very rare and the early strikes during 1909-1915 were quite good. I will default to business strike without any known die markers.

Thanks all for the comments. BadThad, I do think there's a distinctive C shaped scratch near the I in "IN" on the obverse that is consistent with a matte proof. But I admit I'm learning as I go here. Using this as the reference: https://www.lincolncentcollection.c...eristics.php

I agree with BadThad's comments. It does need to be authenticated. There are spots on the rims that don't look squared off, particularly on the reverse from about 10:00 to 3:00 looks rounded. Same thing on the obverse from around 12:00 to 3:00.
I hope it is a matte proof but it could just be a very, very nice business strike.

Yes, that makes sense. I am working on sending this one in for validation. Will be interesting to see how it turns out! I will post an update when I know. One more interesting thing (at least to me), after reading these comments I went back to the old storage box where I pulled these pennies from a few years ago and I was able to find the old hand written notes from this coin (notes dated in 1946 by the way!). Anyway, it turns out that this had been labeled as a proof. Of course, that just means that our great grandfather thought it was at the time, and it still needs validation. but it's interesting to read these 80 year old notes on the same question we're discussing today.

Very cool, it was almost 80 years ago your grandfather wrote that!

So curious if this ended up being a proof!

I was looking at the PCGS plate coins for both PR coins and MS coins. Besides the die markers (which I can't see on OP's coin based on pics), I noticed a distinct difference in the middle of the ear which blends/fades into the hair. Notice the top of the ear on MS coins are not as detailed as the PR coins. Also, the first hair lock on top of the MS coin is not as detailed as a PR coin. Now again...this was just looking at PCGS plate coins for comparison. My first thought when I saw OP's coin was PR. I think Grandpa was correct! Great coin! smat
