Came to the same conclusion of VF-35 to XF-40 and has been cleaned.

I see serious hairlines from a harsh cleaning. IMO it does not matter the technical grade as this is not a serious collectors coin in that state.
Take a look at my other hobby ... http://www.jk-dk.art

CC dollars will always have collector interest...even cleaned.

Well I guessed EF 40 cleaned. At least I paid EF 40 cleaned prices for it.
They aren't going for cheap the CC's aren't. I could send it back but I think I'll keep it. It looks much better in hand.

How about this coin ? Its graded rather high and doesn't look cleaned but it had a little to much white in the cheek, neck, fore head. It looks like its been possibly rubbed. Its priced right and I just might buy it. If it were cleaned then PCGS would have picked up on it right ? Thanks.

No sign of cleaning on that one. The fingerprints detract a bit, but still a nice looking coin.

@Silverskunk, it is hard to assess the 98 O coin from just a picture of the obverse in that slab. I do recommend starting a new thread on the subject if you are interested. Posting here is like hijacking another members thread. Do you have pics of the reverse of that 98 O?

Well its kind of hard to hijack your own thread. Anyway I'm leaning toward no cleaning and a bargain at its price.
BTW the original 1878CC coin in MY thread I am returning. I dont appreciate how the guy described the coin in the sale and it is obvious its been cleaned fairly harshly. I am slowly learning.
Thanks to all for the help.

That is a good move returning the 78CC. A better one will come along. The new reverse pic of the 98 O looks good and I would agree with a 65 reverse. The obverse looks a little lack luster from the pics and out of focus. I would ask for better pics of the obverse. PCGS has an interesting article concerning the 98 O and how rare they are to find in circulated grades. You might want to read this link. Scroll down the page for the article. Best of luck whatever you decide. https://www.pcgs.com/coinfacts/coin/1898-o-1/7254

I like the 98-o. I think the toning is from the mint bag leaving what looks like fingerprints but actually bag toning. This explains the brighter reverse.

Well I bought the 1878 O MS65 for $215 which is a fair price for the coin and I'm returning the CC. In fact its both from the same seller but I'd never buy an ungraded Morgan coin again unless its some super duper deal that has a guaranteed return. I too like the Orleans coin.
Let me ask you this please ? I dont like not putting new coins on the scope yet at the same time I dont like breaking open these grade capsules either.
What the answer to this ? Thank you for your time.

Definitely don't break it out. Much of the value is due to the PCGS grade, and there's no guarantee that it would get the same grade if resubmitted. And it certainly would be worth less as a raw coin.

And it certainly would be worth less as a raw coin. Well the bad news is I broke out a 1878 S BU out of its grade capsule. Like a dummy. The good news is I was very careful doing it and you can't really even tell unless you looked very, very carefully. The good news is it was it was just a 1878 S in BU and not that expensive. Still, all in all, a pleasant coin to have. Further good news is I'll never even sell it, and luckily I'll be dead., that will be done by my kid or grandkids. But Lesson learned. If someone went to the trouble of grading a coin at an established service there is little reason to doubt the graders. Anyway, Star Wars Andor time.
