Hmmm. . . between the spots, the mark between "I" and "B" on the obverse, and the line in the field below "UNUM" on the reverse, I'm not so sure. The spot behind Liberty's head is definitely visible. I could see CACG saying it's MS-65, maybe a 66.

From what people have posted here, CAC seems pickier than PCGS.
Great variety coin, and a beautiful specimen. =)

I'll guess MS-65. Nice coin!

All depends if the grader thinks the "spot" will continue to grow. I'm not a grader so my opinion of "It won't grade 66 and definitely not FBL" remains unvalidated!

Quote: nice coin---save yourself some money---don't send it in---leave as is---imo--- I'm sending it in because of the Trumpet Tail mint mark, which is rare on the 1943-S and adds significant value.

Dumb question: will CAC put a variety label on the holder? Or will the coin go back to PCGS for variety attribution first?

Quote: will CAC put a variety label on the holder CAC is the company that puts the green stickers on NGC & PCGS holders. CACG is the coin grading company. CACG will grade and put the variety on the holder.

Thanks for the info. I hadn't realized that CAC and CACG were effectively different entities. Now I understand. You aren't going for a green bean on the existing slab, you are going to crack that PCGS slab and submit the coin to CACG for attribution and grading.

Just another option to consider. Since you already have the MS-66 grade from PCGS, and the Trumpet Tail is a Cherry Picker's Guide variety, Variety Slabbing Service could add its variety seal to the existing PCGS slab. That would avoid any crossover grade risk, and provide proof of the variety. I've done that with a number of coins, and the VSS attribution is respected.
Just an option I'm tossing out there, and I'm not trying to talk you into taking a different path.
Absolutely beautiful coin, and a fantastic example of a tough variety. Your collection has some of the nicest examples of great varieties that I've seen.
