Gorgeous coin ! I like raw coins myself so I say crack it out and enjoy it. It's a beauty.

the coin has been cleaned. I dont think it would pass at PCGS. you're going to get the same grade. i'd leave it be

The overall color of the coin. based on your photos, which is all I can go by, shows the dullness of the surfaces. for a coin at this high grade its not exhibiting a semi-lustrous surface you would expect to see. the mottled toning on both sides is another indicator, this appears when the original skin has been removed. I have a 55 slant that looks just like this that I sent in (dummy, but I didnt know any better years ago) that came back Und details (cleaned) there are sweeping light hairlines in the left obv field and across the face and neck. one I can see thats crossing star 5. they are barely visible but the are there indicating the coin was wiped. the ones in the right field are on the holder. blow up your 2nd obv photo and look close at those areas. the coin is nicely struck. it was a beautiful coin. there was no reason for someone to do this to that coin. sadly PCGS would have the exact finding DOCC. hope that helps |

@panzaldi is spot on. The color on this is not natural. The lines on the face and neck and the area in front of her face have been wiped at a minimum. I don't see this coin as straight grading at any of the top firms.

Luster is muted for sure but all I see is die polish lines under scope at 30x.

Only concern I have is the muted luster but I'm willing to take the risk on that. Will report back in a few months. I wouldn't crack it out. It does have surface issues.

Surface issues old light cleaning clearly evident .
Possibly stripped at one time , retoned or recoloured
Chemically with a product like Dellars Darkener .
Still a very pleasing desirable piece .
Crack out and leave raw , or as is .
Save the 40 bucks !

DOCC some of those hairlines could be die polish lines but if they cross over devices, they are not, and they do. the ones across the cheek are not. on top of that you have the color of the overall coin. looking forward to a re-post. i'll definitely  if it comes back straight. |
