I'm going with G04 because of the rims all showing.

Full rims and date is full...what I insisted upon as a minimum when building my set.

Enough rim there for a G-4.

tough call that this coin would grade straight. all the horizontal swipe marks and the coins overall appearance are pointing to a cleaning.

G details (cleaned)

That reverse is really strong for a G-04. I agree with G-04 as the technical underlying grade here, but the reverse rim is about all that holds the reverse back from G-06. The obverse is weaker.

Yes on the old cleaning, so G-04 Details sounds right.

Pretty good snag for a melt value purchase.

Panzaldi, fortcollins, thank you both very much!

Noted on the cleaning, I'd figured as much, but still very happy to grab this one.

I commend you for starting this set. Walkers are well-designed coins, and are readily identifiable and collectible all the way to AG-03. Other series didn't fare as well in circulation, such as the Buffs and SLQs.

Not all detailed coins are equal. Your instincts are sound. I'd take a "details - cleaned" coin any day over a bent, holed, filed, or graffiti-covered coin.

Keep going. You will have a collection that is well worth the time. And in the process, you will be assembling a grading set that you can use for other Walkers.

fortcollins, as always, much appreciated!

Walkers are definitely a favorite of mine, and agreed about cleaned versus "damaged".

I'm hoping that bin hasn't left yet when I go back, there was a similar 1928-S and an AU or UNC 1946 I had to leave behind... Just didn't have the cash on me.
