Sounds like you and your docs have a good plan moving ahead. I'm glad to hear that it's non-aggressive and low-grade.

Thanks everyone, I'll get through this with flying colors  My PSA was only .8 which is good, we'll be keeping an eye on that number. They took my vitals today and they were just great - like a 20 something year old BP - 120/80 Pulse at 59 respiration was at 16 O2 at 98% temp at 98.5 |

I have prostate cancer as well.
I will most probably die with it, but most probably will not be the cause of my demise.
I am otherwise reasonably good health and currently and very socially integrated and actively contributing with
1. Church,
2. a car club,
3. lifetime continuous high interest in numismatics and regularly attend coin shows
4. lead a walking group twice per week on a menu of about 100 different walking routes covering about typically 5 klm on both sides of Sydney Harbor and adjacent coastal areas.
Also go on a cruise one a year, attend entertainment shows often, and visit hot springs at Moree near the NSW Qld border twice a year.
Nevertheless, if I am not alive by this time next year. the prospect of that does not bother me.
I am not often home during the day, but treasure 'me' time by myself when I am.
My general advice is just get on with your life, as best as your able.

thanks folks! @sel_69l: Don't worry, unlike kuei-kuei - I have not yet ordered my coffin yet  I'm not ready to have dirt tossed on my face either, (maybe a bit of sand kicked up from the beach from some big bully, I would allow) I'm not going anywhere soon - I'm just not ready - it is only an unlevel sidewalk crack I happened to snag my toes on. |

Lots of prostate positive cases survive for more than 10 years plus,
and die with the cancer, not because of it.

Thanks Sel - I do plan on living well beyond the 10 years (no matter how boring life can get at times) Unless something else decides differently that is not in my control.
I certainly won't let it steer my life moving forward. I'm keeping controls on that.

My thoughts are with you and stay the course! Having been there and doing that with very similar circumstances as yours.
Had a PSA of 15.9, biopsy results same as you Gleason 3-3-6 ,catheter installed from Feb to surgery on June 15th of this year to open prostate channel and allow urethra to be unimpeded. There were 12 core samples taken in the biopsy and 2 were positive, similar to your results, luckily the slow moving and appear to have not spread.
Had to have the surgery, to get rid of the catheter, but I coped those 4 months. As you are now, I am now on surveillance. Just had my 3 month, PSA 1.7, and will get the MRI scan another 6 months, and another surgical biopsy and go from there.
There are always people worse off than us and I keep that in mind every day.

I initially had a PSA of 7.4, but at the time I was fighting off a urinary tract infection AND an blood Bacterial infection. which prompted my medical care team to order an MRI on the prostrate. Had 2 of them 1 month apart both showing spots on my prostrate - which in turn got me to a biopsy they did 14 samples for me, but just before the biopsy, another blood test that showed my PSA was at 0.7. Luckily I didn't get a catheter installed - the med team tole me that if I couldn't urinate normally, that I would get one - so I tried real hard to make sure everything was in 'working order'. So yes, now a watch and wait to see how things progress. and please, take care of yourself as well. |
