I doubt that it is gold, maybe copper bronze or brass. If it is abut the size of a quarter and lighter, it would be considerably heavier I would think than a quarter. I'm still as baffled as you. I did look around a little but found nothing.

I support the button theory. It will explain the blob in the middle of the one side and the apparent raised area in the middle of the other.

I think you have the bottom picture upside down and the design in the middle looks like a R when turned around. it looks like to me its some type of advertisement for some kind of pie maybe? I am just guessing here

Since everyone is offering guesses ... I've been trying to read the letters to see if they actually make up words, and all I can come up with are "PIF", "NAPOLI" (but with a backwards "N"), and possibly "MADINA". Only "Napoli", Italian for "Naples", makes any sense. Perhaps we have a jeton here with fake Latin words on it?

Maybe Pizza Pie? Completely off the wall guess.
When I was a kid we went to a small Italian restaurant called "The Napoli" which translates to Naples in Italy. They had awesome Pizza! But this looks so old, it looks like something from at least the 1800's. Like I said just a wild guess.

Even if they r guesses, at least you all r given it a try and I appreciate it. I just wish there was a picture of what it really looks like some where. It would b funny if it got someone a free slice of pizza back in the day. Ha ha.

I don't believe the button theory. Buttons don't have a design on both sides.

I believe what you are seeing as "NAPOLI" is actually a "MAPOLI" and the M has taken a hit instead of it being a backwards N

I agree, I took the image and tweaked it a bit, but haven't had a chance to put them up. I do see Mapoli as well, so there goes the pizza token idea. LOL

On the upper picture, could the word at 1 to 3 o'clock be MĘDIRA, an alternative spelling for MADEIRA? Perhaps MĘDINA somebody's surname?

Sorry that didn't come out as expected (cut & paste huh). I suggested AE as joined.

I thought "button" when I first saw it, but it's purely a guess.

Sorry I've been working a lot lately but just saw all of the replies. I really appreciate all the effort on trying to identify this thing. If it's a button than so be it. All I know is I have no idea and you all have given great help. Thanks!

When I get my hands on the coin one more time I'll Try to get some better shots. I understand it is worn and dirty so that makes it harder to distinguish between other coins and buttons. After that I might give up and leave it to my Mom and her set idea that it is a great missing coin.
