I am in the "save them"camp. As I search rolls of cents and nickels I notice ANY top quality coin just jumps out at you. I don't care what any book or list says ,a top quality coin is ALWAYS worth holding onto. Quality is difficult to find so don't let them go easily!

I would be willing to buy or trade for some of these nickels. There is someone here who actually got me looking at JN's. He knows who he is

Trying some photos (again)....... 'typical' of the coins in this hoard ...
Hmmmmm ... need some help here ..... trying to get 3 photos in, the largest is only 43 KB .... and the filenames 'follow the rules' ..
When I click thr 'green camera' below ..... it directs me to the top of this reply post .... not to a download box.
Anybody have any suggestions on what I am doing wrong?
David

I give away very little. I guess I'm just a coin junkie. Even common, not-worth-anything, coins attract me. I got it bad, I guess. See my post (under the Kennedy search topic) when I got 60 1973 Kennedys halfs at the bank the other day. Are they worth anything? Not really, (I don't think...) but I'm not getting rid of them!

Hi nickelsearcher!
I have found if you then minimize the pop-up (upload) page, the photo-up-load page comes back up. Try it!
It worked for me...

I played with Moe145 suggestion ...... Thanks! A few photos of the 'typical' coins in this dumped hoard of '62 thru '64 Jeffersons .... I did not take the time to cherry-pick the lot ...... have almost 9 full rolls of these .... just grabbed a few for photos. Alas .... my photo skills are very poor .... these coins glow in natural light. A 1962 Obverse .... A 1963 Obverse .... Cripes ..... Never thought I would show THIS coin .... a 1964 Obverse ... A 'typical' Reverse ..... many of these show fine step detail .... many are poor struck and while BU have no step detail at all. Is that normal for the series? Many of these coins (maybe 10%) show a very unusual (to me) shiny ring of irridence as you rotate the coin in the light. I wish I knew how to describe it ..... somebody can hopefully tell me what this is. I've decided as a result of your kind input to keep the coins ..... what the heck .... as pointed out above there will never be any more BU 62-64 Jefferson's. Thanks for the wisdom and good advice. I am curious how the 'experts' view these coins ..... are they in your opinion BU? Thanks David

I say if you like them, keep them. I personally would. It's like Super Dave said, there will never be anymore Unc early 60's nickels, and eventually prices will rise.

Quote: A 'typical' Reverse ..... many of these show fine step detail .... many are poor struck and while BU have no step detail at all. Is that normal for the series? Yes this is typical, that is why I suggest you put aside and protect the best examples. I want you to click on this link. http://www.pcgs.com/prices/PriceGui...erson+NickelFS stands for full steps in the price columns. It also tells you which are typically hard to find, does it not? It shows the difference in prices, which are just an indicator to me of which will be found UNC with little or no step detail. It is the easiest way for me to help motivate you to understand the value of well struck coins. So what, you only have 3 steps on one or three from these dates. They are ABOVE average strike and in my opinion worth more than another of the same grade that has none. Of course mint state comes first, then strike quality second. This doesn't keep me from keeping a MS62 full stepper though. I'll take a nice AU55 1953S with 5 steps off anyone's hands, no problem. Comprendez? I wish I knew how to describe it ..... somebody can hopefully tell me what this is. There is a horseshoe luster effect on the reverse of these nickels. That has a nickname, which at the moment escapes me but it is normal and more often found on certain years like those you have. I hope to remember that nickname and get back to you. Glad you are interested, it gets a lot better, this is a good series to learn a lot about coin collecting with. Your pictures are pretty good. I am not any better at taking pictures either. I think you need 50 quality posts to use the camera thing, I apologize for not thinking about that when I suggested it.

That 63 and 64 are STUNNING! I would hold on to them especially if there are any steps to speak of.

Thanks for the link wheezydog ... it boggled my mind and opened my eyes ..... geepers ..... a MS-65 FS 1964 for over $10,000!! Does anybody actually PAY that ...... I have lots to learn about this hobby ..... perhaps these rolls of BU nickels can help me as I slowly go thru them to find the 'best'. Opinions please ..... what is the best resource out there for a newbie to learn how to grade Jeffersons' ...... how to tell an MS-61 from an MS-63, etc. I've got lots of old Jeffersons to grade. Yippie Best David
