My latest 10 rolls of Jeffersons were a real surpries ..... somebody dumped their 'hoard' and I now have 10 rolls of absolutely gem BU 1962, 1963 and 1964 P & D nickels.
The collector in me hates to give them back ..... after all 45 year old BU coins are a joy to look at ...... but they have absolutely no collectable value that I know of.
I'm thinkng about setting them aside and taking the time someday to cull the full-steps (if there are any) and dump the rest.
What would you do with them?
Best
David

Silly question. When in doubt....HOARD it!
Unless you need the money, no harm will come from tying up 20 bucks in nickles. Problem with me is storage space. If up to me I would keep them. Ya never know.

If they did not interest me I would trade them to a collector who they do interest .
putting them back into circulation is such a waste .
once you have the required time and posts on the forum give it a shot !

Hold on to them, what might appear to be nothing today could be worth something tomorrow. Such is the world of collectibles.

Quote: What would you do with them? I would personally keep every single one, and I'm not a Moderns kind of guy. There will never, ever be any more BU early-60's nickels than there are today, and the number is dwindling as we speak because of people who are doing the opposite of what I recommend. Value is about supply as well as demand, and this is one where the supply is still decreasing. It'll catch up.

Holy cow, you know I would be ecstatic. These are especially difficult years for quality. By all means, carefully pick out the best. Full steppers will be scarce so 3 and 4 step nickels from this batch are good to pull, especially with a minimum of contact marks and sharper strikes. I tend to buy rolls of D mintmarks from the 60's as normally they are even tougher in the same situation, but you can do well with Phillies. NOT JUNK! Pull all the good ones and preserve them in Airtites or Kointains in 2x2's put the rest in tubes. Then send the good ones to me! LOL Just kidding! If you decide to do a trade PM me when you post.

I'd keep them!
Matter of fact, when I come across really gemmy 1959-1970 coins I keep all of them. I'm really picky, though; I only have a couple rolls worth from all of the rolls I have gone through.

Ok ...Ok .... you convinced me. I'll keep them. Thanks folks for keeping a newbie from making a big mistake! Here is something interesting .... I finally got through all 10 rolls (spent most of the day searching for fossil shark teeth on the Chesapeake Bay beaches) ..... and within the 10 rolls were 37 'modern' nickles .... 98 thru 2008. I also found one (1) Gem BU 1956 as an upgrade to my collection. All the rolls were 'hand-rolled' in a particular style of roll ..... soooooooo ... somebody in my local community is dumping their collection at face value at this bank .... I will be there Monday during my lunch break asking for $40 more of rolls that 'look like these' as I show the wrapper. I actually took some photos of a typical '62, '63 and '64 ..... and made sure they were below 100Kb in size .... but the image uploader does not work for me. Anyways ..... Many Thanks for the feedback and advice Best David

I am in the "save them"camp. As I search rolls of cents and nickels I notice ANY top quality coin just jumps out at you. I don't care what any book or list says ,a top quality coin is ALWAYS worth holding onto. Quality is difficult to find so don't let them go easily!

I would be willing to buy or trade for some of these nickels. There is someone here who actually got me looking at JN's. He knows who he is

Trying some photos (again)....... 'typical' of the coins in this hoard ...
Hmmmmm ... need some help here ..... trying to get 3 photos in, the largest is only 43 KB .... and the filenames 'follow the rules' ..
When I click thr 'green camera' below ..... it directs me to the top of this reply post .... not to a download box.
Anybody have any suggestions on what I am doing wrong?
David
