Bank Of America - Roll Hunting

Most banks will do $500 (1 box) for you with or without an account. I think the problem is that most tellers dont know how much comes per unit ordered. I started off ordering 2 boxes at a bank nearby, which they kept up for a few weeks, then switched over to bags of 1k each. Not that I am complaining, more to search. Just ask them if they order coins for their customers and you would like 2 units of what every they order, most likely boxes. Be prepared to get up to 2k.

It doesn't have to be expensive. I keep $25 tied up in change to sort through with my son, so the only boxes we ever get are pennies. We get fewer rolls of the other denominations, and whatever loose halves a teller might happen to have.

Of course, we're not mining for silver; he just wants to find a silver clad Kennedy for his type set and a 2001 Kennedy for his birth year set. He wants to find a Walker and a Barber, too, but we're not holding our breath.

I ordered halves recently from 2 diff banks and they told me the min was $1000.

I say call or stop in to all banks and credit unions near you and open an account with the one that's the friendliest to coin collectors.I also suggest you start out with a box of cents ($25).

Not entirely impossible. My wife went into the bank on New Years eve to make the store deposit and asked the teller for any halves that they may have. She got $7.50 total. One 1945s Walker and and a badly abused 64 Kennedy.

The hobby of coin roll searching is not expensive at all. You really never spend any money....you are just exchanging it for more money. I wouldn't worry about trying to buy boxes of halves. Alot of banks have to order them by 2's ($1000.00). The majority of my silver finds are from customer wrapped rolls. When you have funds available, then worry about trying to get a box. Start searching smaller denominations. I prefer nickels (easier on the eyes than cents) because older coins are often found. Over the last 4 months I've found 4 Liberty "V" nickels, about 30 Buffalo and about 70 Silver War Nickels and several Key and semi key Jeffersons. I still check all my local banks at least once a week for halves. Sometimes they only have a few in the teller tray, sometimes they have rolls. I'll take them all. Just remember always be polite and pleasant. It will work in your favor. Tellers are more likely to go out of their way to ask other tellers if they have any halves if you are nice to them. I'm also buying alot of nickels from banks I don't have accounts with because I'm always nice and they see me all the time.
One last note, I've found that BOA are not the bank to try to get halves from (unless you have an account). Most every other bank is more than happy for you to take their halves off their hands. (account or not) BOA I stopped in wouldn't dream of letting me have them since I didn't have an account.

i find it better at my local credit union. Just yesterday I stopped by to get 2x rolls($20). she didnt have any nor did any tellers. she then proceeded to the VAULT. I love it when they go to the vault =) anywho, she came back and asked what they were for. I told her and she laughed. But I was the one having the last laugh... out of the 2 rolls I had found 2 %40's, a 66' and 68-d! she also mentioned that no one has ever come in here asking for halves!! I think I found my place!

i would start doing the $500 boxes, but my wife has a problem with that much money. I told her that I'm not spending anything! its just exchanging it! anyway, I will keep trying to convince her. But as for now, we agreed to $10-$20. so far its been great. but the bug has hit me hard so I might be having more another conversation with her today. =D
