My guess is 60 because of the blemishes on the reverse

This is why I wanted to post this!! Those darn lines on the reverse!! I have always disliked them and find them distracting. Goes to show you that even a top graded coin should not be purchased online without good pictures of both the obverse and reverse. Please take this as a lesson to all!

Quote: I wonder if that would cross over to NGC Why would I cross it? You thought it would grade MS-60. Do you think it would grade higher then MS-66 from PCGS?

My take on this coin, given the lofty PCGS grade which is does merit mark-wise, is that the fingerprint did not etch itself into the zinc plating until after it was slabbed. In other words, the fingerprint was fresh and more or less invisible when graded. It is a similar situation to a coin grading full RD but becoming a RB after a number years in a slab.

I like how Scott Travers described grading on an A, B & C level for each numeric grade. For example a 66A would be a 66+ or close to 67 while a 66C would be a 66- or close to 65. He said this applies to all TPG coins. In addition, CAC only stickers coins that they deem to be 66A or 66B if their assigned grade is 66. 66C coins would not get a CAC sticker and this Lincoln seems to be one of those 66- or 66C coins that is "low end for the grade".

It may seem that 66 is a lofty grade for this coin, but we cannot see the luster properly from pictures. PCGS (and NGC) really likes luster! They will bump coins up based on luster, regardless of the hits. At least this has been my experience.
Spend some time on ha.com and look closely at the pictures. I'm often shocked by the coins that get 66, 67, 68 grades with obvious hits. My 1939-D should have rec'd at least an MS-67 based on hits (none), but NGC gave it a 66 I believe because the luster wasn't blinding.

Quote: This one was graded MS-66 by NGC I've seen this coin before and I still say you were robbed. That coin is every bit a 67. From the pics it seems to have impared luster, which is why you were robbed IMO.

Quote: From the pics it seems to have impared luster... I agree Bryan's coin looks like a 67 and it would certainly be one of those 66A coins. I wonder if the strike hurt it a bit too? Although the strike is good, it's not a great strike.

This has been awesome! It really is amazing how subjective grading can get. I am thankful everyone has left all this great feedback as I am preparing to put the matched set of 1943 PDS's on ebay. I saw a set go for $199 the other day and I don't think I can hold on to them with prices like that!
