The majority of coins I offer here, are in the auction format. Of course, ebay does appeal to a wider audience. I would prefer to offer them first to the CCF family. If there is no interest, I move them to ebay.

as much as I love to see coins offered here for other collectors I have to say for high end coins there isn't much exposure here nor do we have allot of members that can afford high priced coins so ebay would be better in those situations

I think ebay has a wider audience & will probably generate a better price. I also think it's a good idea to list coins here first. Figure what they would sell for on ebay, subtract what it would cost in fees & offer the item here at a fixed price. That gives another member an opportunity to pick up a coin for less than ebay with no loss to the seller. If it doesn't sell in a few days you can always list on ebay.

If I sold a $200 coin on ebay, what would that end up costing me in listing fees, ebay fees and Paypal fees?

You can go to both sites and calculate it, but round numbers I would estimate $20 or so including PayPal fees. I might be a bit high on that.
Don't forget to factor in shipping, which you have the option of charging in your listing.

To discuss the first question posted here, it looks like right now it depends on the coin/series for sale. The Morgans that are up right now are seeing some pretty good bidding. Lots and lots of Morgan collectors out there, and those that aren't still like them and will buy them. There's just something about a big piece of silver and a pretty nice design. When I sell some of my Morgans, which will be soon, they will go here.

I've never had much luck buying or selling coins here on the Forum but I always assumed that was because, frankly, most of the coins I deal in are considered "junk" (or worse!) by most serious collectors. I think if I had something "good" to sell I'd certainly start here first and then move it to ebay if I couldn't sell it here.

I have a good question to ask: those ebay and Paypal belong to the same owner?Just curius to know because ebay is charging you fee on item you sell excepted on the shipping charge then paypal charge you fee on the item sold and also on the shipping,my opinion is that they both belong to the same owner. Paypal fees are typically 30 cents (fixed fee) plus 2.9% of the total. I think ebay fees start at 8.75% of selling price with lower break points for higher priced items.

So now I am starting to understand why ebay metion in a email that starting October 2009 that all item would have to be paid with Paypal,no more check or cash this because they where loosing monney on shipping, one thing I hate about ebay is that when ever you list an item with a reserved price they send you an email to lower down your price another tactic of them to hain more sell and more money each time I get this type of email it's junk to me.

Andre, You can still accept other forms of payment for auctions (Money Order, check, first-born male child, etc.) You just can't advertise that in your auction and if you accept other forms of payment you forfeit PayPal protection. I've had numerous buyers ask to pay by M.O. I gladly accept these and inform the buyer that the item won't ship until the M.O. is successfully cashed. The end result is that the item takes a bit longer to get to the buyer and no one gets to pay PayPal fees.

Yeah it depends on the coin. Usually more for lower end stuff than higher end stuff, but I've sold at least a couple of higher end coins on here. So it's pretty decent here...a lot better than another forum (cointalk) I go on where I have never successfully sold a single thing in over a year despite over two dozen 'potential' transactions. People just ignore PM's/emails or are really iffy about doing anything in the first place there, its so frustrating. In the rare case that someone actually DID give the communication to set up a deal, they wanted a slabbed coin for half its market value or something...a little negotiation is fine, but that's just ridiculous. As much as that forum irritates me much of the time, I have tried to be civil, so I hope my....thoughts on them are allowed to stay. I mean no offense to them or anything, but this place does seem far better due to its tight knittedness where people trust each other more and whatnot. I'd say you'd be taking a high risk AUCTIONING higher end more obscure coins here because of what others said (lack of exposure, funds) but other than that there is not much trouble. Thus, I believe that for higher end more 'obscure' stuff, ebay probably will get you a faster sale and potentially more money, but at a heavy fee. I'm really not a big fan of them at all, but the exposure to so many buyers that they give you cannot be denied (if you list correctly, that is) Here, you may have to wait awhile, but if you have a nice coin that does not come up all too often you sometimes will eventually get a buyer at a fair price.
