I too am interested in buying a couple from you. Couple of common date or depending on funds at the time I am after a CC mintmark to at least complete a set of mint types

If you have the funds, you should do what makes you happy.But remember, the more you spend for each coin,the more you have to gain,or god forbid lose if there were an economic meltdown in your lifetime.

well I hopefully will never have to sell them, either at a gain or loss. I really want to leave them to my youngest daughter (since she has shown the most interest) and I also want a collection she can be proud of

Dangit Bryan, I was happy with my Morgans till you started this thread.  Mine were all AU-MS, now I'm selling the AU and buying MS UNC.  Edited by TLS5933

hopefully I will be soon, and I mean very very soon. I have my eye on a MS-66 VAM-82 at this moment. Its just that pesky 7,000.00 dollar thing I am having a little bit of a hard time with, but you gotta pay to play

Bryan, I'm sure this would vary from coin to coin,but how much difference does the VAM make in the price of a coins value. For example say a coin Redbooks for $50 in MS64 condition. Hou much difference would there be in price if this coin was also say,VAM 26. I just purchased a Morgan 1902-O MS63 VAM 26 and a 1904-O MS64 VAM 5 Double 1-4 |

That varies greatly from VAM to VAM, based both upon rarity and demand. Top 100 and Hot 50 VAMs tend to carry premiums, some more than others, and now the Elite Clashes book will likely create a new category of added-value VAMs. Some VAMs carry no extra value at all. Your best bet is to check auction results at Heritage, available with a free membership. If they haven't sold one, they probably aren't getting sold. |

Then you have people that only collect VAM's and if you can target them just about every VAM especially the ones you hardley ever see will carry a small premium over the standard issue coin. And if you can get 2 or 3 of them interested in your coin it could go up alot more Edited by Bryan1315

Ok I have upgraded two of my coins already and the two are up for grabs. One being a 1884-CC Ms-64Pl graded by PCGS and the other being a 1880-S MS-64PL graded by NGC. Draknor if you want the 84-cc I will give you first crack at it, make me a offer, they are going on the buy sell boards here so go there and make a offer or email me, the other one is for who ever wants it its a make me a offer also

There are three of my coins that have been upgraded in the buy/sell section. If no one shows a interest on the forum they will soon go to ebay because I dont need them any longer I will also be selling a 1878 B1 reverse VAM-84a in MS-64 graded by NGC in a few days because I sent in a VAM-84 to get attributed and it was actually a VAM-84 with the clashed E like the 84a but the 84a has a few more clashes on it than the regular 84 with clashed E. Anyway the new 84 with E is MS-65 so the 64 needs to go. Oh yeah another point, NGC doesn't yet attribute the 84A so its just attributed as a VAM-84 with Clashed E but here is a description of the 84A from the SUPER CD clashed die variety book "Elite Clashed Morgan dollars" written by the highly respected numismatist and VAM expert Mark Kimpton. 84A(revised) II/I 12 • B1e (Washed Out L, Broken D, Clashed Obverse n, Reverse E & M) (180) I-3 R-5 Obverse II/I 12- Strongly clashed die with partial incuse n of In from reverse showing next to Liberty head neck. Reverse B1e- Clashed die with partial raised E from obverse LIBERTY below eagle's tail feathers on left side. Vertical bar and middle serif of E show. Also has raised designer's initial M from obverse showing above d of God. Known as the "Weak E, Weak M&M", In his book, Mark writes "Mint state examples have traded at nearly 3x the value of their contemporaries". |
