I did it again ! ...(or at least partook in the topic wanderings)(is "partook" even a word ? .. ) I seem to constantly have an irresistable urge to wander off topic....to hijack topics......or to join the stampede when others do that ! ...

Quote: you are trying to judge ole GW based on laws that did not exist until 100+ years after he died. Hindsight is 20/20 .. When Washington, Jefferson, and Lincoln had slaves it was legal but now it is not and depending on which group of people you ask there is no redemption for it. I know a lot about GW that is negative BUT I find the hemp thing a lot more interesting. Quote: While I do enjoy this discussion, let's keep it on topic. This is straying too deep into non-coin territory.

I think Nikola Tesla should be on the ASE. I think it is high-time (pun intended) we recognized "The man that lit the world" in some way other than a deteriorating statue at Niagara falls. They don't even really teach about him in schools. The world is better off because he was a part of it, and he deserves to be recognized. I think it would be a fitting tribute to the man by putting his likeness on the American Silver Eagle.

Honestly, I would prefer that they scrap that national park idea for the quarters and put tit on the silver eagles instead. At least that way, they would have 10x as much room to do some really great designs, and you would not be flooding the public with a bunch of new designs all the time.

Video professor hasn't released a cs4 disc yet If anyone knows some tutorials please PM me and I will make up a concept design for a change to the silver eagle

As previously stated I would like to see updates to the Obverse on our circulation coinage. I wish we changed designs ONCE every decade. Let multiple designs in one year be left to the realm of commemorative coinage.

Quote: The problem is it takes an act of congress to have the new designs. (although the mint director can technically change the designs if they are old enough.) Congress will most likely squabble over taking a D or "R" off of a coin or be looked at the guy that hates Geo Washington cause he took him off the quarter. That's just it, it DOESN'T take an act of Congress. The Sec of the Treasury (Not the Mint Director) can make the change on his says so without having to go to or through Congress. The problem is if he does Congress will get its knickers up in a wad and start screaming about the loss of their power. Unfortuntely our best chance to get it done was back when Lloyd Benson was Sec of the Treasury because when he was leaving the office he was also retiring from public office. He could have gotten away with it because he wasn't going to have anyone he would have to answer to afterwards. Today all he can change is the obv of the cent, the dime, and the half dollar which doesn't circulate anyway. Can't change the five cent now until 2031, and even then the reverse will still have to have Monticello on it. The obv of the quarter can be changed in 2024 about three years into a possible second round of national parks (T Roosevelt anyone?) Quote: I think it is high-time (pun intended) we recognized "The man that lit the world" in some way other than a deteriorating statue at Niagara falls. I agree. Where would this world be without Tesla's Alternating Current system. But I would still prefer it to be a circulating commemorative, even multi year, than just a "Here is your new coin design."

If all a change needs is the "SAY SO" of the Sec. of the Treasury then why can't the Nickel or the Quarter be changed? I'm guessing Legislation... Can you post the links for those two specific "acts"

Would not a new design cause confusion for assayers? ASE is one of the most recognizable and tradeable bullion in the world. I've heard of people preferring these over .9999 because of their liquidity and acceptability among dealers, which I find is disappointing.

I say change the ASE reverse to the St Gaudens Reverse. But keep the Walker obverse. FTMFW
