I agree with coppercoins in the fact that you never see these retained strike thru errors. Usually, only the impression is left. Nice find! Congrats. By the way, are you going to auction?

Definitely genuine and it is a wire bristle from a type of brush that is used at the Mint. It could start at around 40.00 and go up from there.
Thanks, Bill

This is a very cool coin and it beats the heck out of mine, by at least 3/4 of an inch.

thank you for all the comments, for now it will be put into the error book. my curiosity of value is mainly because I am somewhat clueless on more off beat items. in other words, if its not in my small libary coin books, I need help. selling the coins that are not in my main interest of collecting may be in the near future. the error book has had a huge jump in the past 4-6 months, LMC '82 DDR, 2 - LMC '84 - DDO , LMC - '72 DDO die #2 , LMC 97 - DDO , LMC 06 - DDR, and not this struck thru wire error. the thrill of the hunt continues. take care

Just curious.....how many of you have seen one of these with an equivalent or greater size piece of wire? Metalmans is a very nice example, but more typical of the ones I've seen. Just a small piece of wire.
I'm thinking that if you do sell this $50 seems very conservative given the size and orientation of the wire. It's very interesting in how it curves and aligns right with the top of the steps.

I too have not seen one larger and "placed in such a unique position", It would almost seem those covert op employees at the mint have "struck" again,LOL stranger things have happened....Very sweet coin and super sweet, unique find, Mike....PS, I would think this coin would bring much more than $50.00!!

That is absolutely amazing! I have never seen anything like it ........ and would be thrilled to have found it.
No clue on it's 'value' ..... but I dare say that an enthusiastic error collector would pay top dollar to have it ..... well above $50 IMHO.
Great find!
David
