Anybody Interested In Jefferson Nickels?

I have recently started a circulated nickel book. I going to try to do almost all of it from searching rolls. I am mainly doing this in my extra time. there are alot of proof sets I am trying get so I am bought 10.00 dollars last week and I will contiune returning them and getting new ones every week or so. this is just a fun way I amm doing it since I am on a very limited coin budget right now but still want to look through coins. So this is just a fun way for me to have some coins every week to play with. So it is not a set I am in a hurry or looking for the nicest set just something fun to do. I also have a Cent and dime book I ma working on. I am very focus on getting all the clad proof sets from 1960-2006 so that is my focus plus I am alway looking to add high graded coins to my type set. But yes I do like Jefferson nickels as well but is more then something extra to do not a main focus

My wife and I recently completed a Jefferson collection each, almost entirely from circulation.

I think Jeffersons are an excellent collection.
I have a complete raw set. All after 48 are UNC and I am slowly replacing my remaining circulated ones as I come across them and the budget permits.
I also have a PCGS registry set I am working on even slower the the raw set.

All of the Jeffersons are easier to get worn than unc except the past couple years and the 1950-D. This coin was saved out of circulation because of its relatively low mintage. It was probably the spark that lit the fire under BU rolls and bags in the early 1960's. At that time one could get a brand new bag of coins and sell it at a 50% profit. If it were even a couple years old then the sky was the limit. '50-D nickels were trading as high as $30 each at the time which is more than $150 in today's money.

These can be found in circulated condition but require some effort.

I have an MS 65 Common Date Jefferson nickel in a slabbed PCG. It's my only one but I will always treasure, It may not be worth alot but its at my study table all the time!

I put mine away in 2x2's for now too.I have only a few from the 40's,and a couple from the early 50's(not the 50d).I'll keep searching my change,I'm not sure if I'm ready to invest into these nickels yet,but I definitly hang onto them.As I stated above I like the plain old worn coins,but I plan to start at least one set of something in UNC or proof.Still hav'nt made my mind up to which coin set it will be.I'm just having alot of fun the way I'm doing it now.Thanks for all the responses,sn31.

I get a lot of jeffs from the 40's and 50's. I accumulate them in boxes, tubs, etc until I a slow day then we list groups of them on ebay, usually starting them at face value. Older groups of jeffs are fun to look through and there's usually a good mix of dates and mintmarks that can be found in circulation. A great series to start youngsters on, as well as anyone who wants to collect from pocket change.
