At least with coins you'll get something back at some point. It's better than hoarding pets or bottles or magazines, you get the point. So I say hoard till your hearts content!

To be honest, I think it is always a good idea to hoard money.

I have a garage and a room in the basement that could probably qualify for a segment of that TV show HOARDERS. ( not really )
The rest of the house is in pretty nice order except that stuff over there.
I'll probably never get rid of ALL this stuff. There was a time when I owned a bread van and bought a country church that closed up and filled them with stuff. Coins are smaller and I sold a lot of antiques and stuff at auction.
I am returning to an antique shop in September and loading up a case there.
Most of my stuff these days is a lot smaller than a breadbox so I am going to move my extras out that way.
I guess it's OK to hoard if it doesn't interfere with your health, your responsibilities or your sanity.
I think I did all this hoarding and collecting to someday have stuff to sell so I would have enough money when I got older and so not to worry.
I think I did it because I had a fear of needing something.
I really don't remember ever really needing a thing for the past 25 years except more space, time and energy.
Now I am afraid it just doesn't really matter anymore.

You should hoard all the pennies you can find, and use the corroded nasty ones to pay your parking tickets and taxes.

I never hoard. When I get for example commemorative €2 coin worth maybe €2,50 I just spend it. Maybe someone young collector will get it for next time and become very happy about it. I just don't want that there lies dublicates around my desks, shelves and floors. When I get a dublicate which is worth of selling I just sell it and buy something what I don't already have. That's my philosophy

I suppose I qualify as a hoarder, since I have never sold a coin.

I also keep all nickels and copper cents. (Although I justify this by saying that I am saving them for my son to search through one day!)

I hoard cents in a very bad way. But at some point, they'll be sold for the other items I need.

This sort of depends on what you call hoarding. I voted no. However, just what is really hoarding? For example I can't stop adding Albums to my collection. Although completed many of them, I continue on with new ones of the same type. For example I'm now on set #12 of Mercury dimes. Does this constitute hoarding of Mercury dimes or is this just collecting them. Same with many other types of coins. I really don't think of massive amounts of Albums as hoarding, just collecting.

I've read some comments and have a thought. Hoard money, some say. I guess it depends on what you're collecting. I'm a hardcore darksider with most of the coins in my collection obsolete, I see no point of hoarding.
Rest in Peace

Well... http://dollardaze.org/blog/?post_id=00402

As they say - Swiss Franc was the best-performing currency of the 20th century, losing only 80% of its value.
