The buffalo rounds are copies, so to speak, of the 2001 buffalo dollars and can be located quite easily as they have been struck every year since and they DON'T say COPY either! Simply a one ounce silver round instead of a bar. I don't have any silver bars but have looked into them recently only because I want the buffalo. I looked as recently as today but still have not bought one.

Gosh gang! All I see are steaks and burgers there! Yes, looks can be very deceiving as a buffalo is very dangerous once he/she gets provoked and a full grown animal can move very very quickly and most can outrun a horse. To put it bluntly, out on the open plains you belong to them should you make a mistake!!! Also might point out the REAL reason that thousands and thousands of buffalo were killed off in such a short period of time in U.S. history! The Herd WILL NOT LEAVE A WOUNDED ANIMAL behind. This is one fact you/we were never taught in history and Hollywood fails to show that in their made up movies we have watched for years. They will surround a wounded animal and defend it, if they must, and will make every effort to get a downed animal up, get on both sides of him, hold him up and move him to safety with the herd. Buffalo would be best described as huge and dangerous, but very family (herd) oriented! They are by no means stupid and have had the ability to care for themselves since the beginning of time without the help or interference of mankind. I have nothing but respect for them and not only understand the huge role they have played in this country's history but also see the importance they play, for many reasons, in our future. I also see the bison, or plains buffalo, as a major symbol of this nation and can't think of any other animal that has played such an important role that this animal has throughout our history. Of course we could take a long look at such critters such as the beaver, the muskrat, the raccoon and skunk and WONDER why in the world our leaders have NOT taken the time to pay tribute to all the other animals that have been major economic or survival factors of our early nation. The only reason I can see is that they don't vote or are not registered as Democrats or Republicans? Bluntly put there is MUCH more we owe tribute to in this country than a bunch of dead politicians!

crystalk64, in the late 80's, there was a ranch near Longmont, Colorado that was raising "Beefalo"!!! I have never eaten Beefalo, but have eaten Buffalo and it very lean and had a good taste. For the people familiar with Colorado, I had it at a place called "The Fort". Colorado has (use to have) buffalo all over the eastern ranges (on ranches) from Pueblo to north of Longmont. It is indeed a national symbol for the U.S.A.!! Berry

I worked in entomology for the CA State Agriculture Department for a dozen years. One day I had parked under a shade tree next to a cyclone fence to put pheromone in some more insect traps. I heard what sounded like the train in the distance, and it was getting closer. Gee, it sounded a lot closer than possible. I looked over my shoulder and was face to face with a buffalo that was interested in what I was doing.....
I nearly made a mess, glad the fence was between us, as if that would have stopped him if he had his dander up.[:0]

Well Buffaloboy I HAVE been there and seen it with my own two eyes---REPEATEDLY. Quite honestly almost got in a bad way with a mommy buffalo who wasn't quite ready to give up her young bull. She actually came back after the herd had finally moved on. Not a good position for anyone to be in so we had to move to protect ourselves until she gave up and returned to the herd. I have seen a whole herd bed down around a wounded animal to protect it after it got so weak it had to finally lay down. Buffalo are one of the few animal species that I have ever seen that show immense caring for one another and that was their greatest downfall which made it very very easy for our forefathers to literally slaughter them at random. THEY will NOT leave a wounded animal. One other Hollywood misconception is the fact they were always chasing a herd at high speed. Everyone alive and well during the western expansion knew NOT to spook a herd as the last thing you wanted was a stampede! The Native Americans used many tatics to get there buffalo and probably the only time they would "RUN" the herd was to force them over a cliff as it made it much easier to kill a wounded animal even if the wounds were caused by a fall. Lots of Hollywood myths concerning the our plains Bison and most of it is "bull" so to speak. I could tell you much more but this is a coin forum so tell your Dad he could email anyone offering buffalo hunts on the plains and get the same answer. The herd WILL NOT leave a wounded animal.
