It looks like salt water damage, the coin shop is in Santa Cruz, CA and so it could have been found in the ground or sand near the ocean. Some years ago a guy was metal detecting in the sand up near the retaining wall in front of the boardwalk and found a $5.00 liberty gold piece so older coins can sometimes still be found in that area especially after a big storm.

It looks to uniform to be done by hand. That's all I can say about it. It's going to bug be now!!

I couldn't come up with anything. It almost looks like it was run between an object and some kind of gear. The more I look at it though, the more I see reason to question that theory. So... I'll keep thinking about it! lol
