A coin that a first glance looks great. Then you look more and you see what looks like deep scratch marks. Theses always look as if some kid got a hold of the coin and scribbled all over the field of it with a nail. Which probably happened.

The ones that I really hate to see are the ones with great detail that someone either cleaned or defaced & any that have holes.

Good-looking coins that have holes drilled right through for jewelry purposes; a permanent defacing.

Cleaning: No Problem. Whizzed: A little bothered by it but I'll take it. Scratched: It sucks but oh well what the heck.
HOLED! UGGGHH! I hate holes and I cannot stand them. I've passed on many a coin because of it having a hole. It breaks my heart to come across coins that could have been something great and were ruined because someone made a hole in them.
As a side note if It's a coin that is hard to find but it has a "repaired" hole or "filled" then I might buy it.

Ah, I forgot to add another thing that is considered a "problem" by many.
Artificial Toning!
I don't mind AT at that much. If the coin isn't worth that much in the dip she goes and comes out clean! If It's a higher value piece than I just live with it.

Although it's not at the top of my list, I have one very annoying coin. It's a silver Canadian dollar, proof. Can't recall the year right now, but I hate looking at it because although it's in a nice box, it is totally unprotected once opened and someone's fingerprint is right over the obverse side. If I was a forensic scientist I could probably lift the fingerprint and find out who did it!

Whizzing and AT bother me the most because these are done by knowledgeable people trying to be deceitful for profit. Scratched, holed, harshly cleaned, and bent coins are OK for me if a hole needs to be filled and the price is right. I own the ugliest scratched and bent 1906 small crown Canadian quarter, the price was right and my collection of silver quarters is complete.

#1 I hate whizzed coins. It takes away from the entire experience for me and I've often tossed them in the junk bucket. I don't really care what it is.
Dipped, well OK because usually they will retone and be "alright". Corroded coins I never keep. There is no such thing as treatment for corrosion for me, I either toss them or move them along with clear indications of the problem. AT, usually are junk as well, into the melt bucket.
Holed coins become artifacts, good for jewelry and I do use them as such.

The part that really bugs me is the pain in trying to resell it and noticing the distraction every time I look at the coin.

There are no problem coins. They just need a home in someone's collection and to be loved.

Like most, I always avoid corrosion and other environmental damage.
I also dislike an obviously cleaned coin. However, I usually do not have a problem if the cleaning can only be seen under magnification (that is, the eye appeal is still there). I do look for it, but would have no problem buying one if is it is priced accordingly.

I have no place in my collection for problem coins no matter what the problems are (unless they were inherited or given to me from a friend) but the intentional ones or the ones that was done to try and better the surface is the ones that seem to bother me more than ones like corrosion because usually that is just environmental damage instead of someone trying to enhance the coin in some stupid way. I would rather see a holed coin than one that has been cleaned or whizzed because at least if it has a hole I think it may have held some special value to the once caretaker and they put a hole in it for some special reason like to wear or put on a key ring so they wouldn't lose it

Whizzed and holed coins. Dipped is ok as long as the dipper knows what they're doing. The two things that bother me the most is getting a coin that I already have in my collection that for some reason I forgot to write down (more mad at me than the coin), and non-matte proofs with any scratches or whatever, to me they just stick out like a sore thumb and annoy me (although I do have a proof kennedy with a few speckle marks below the nose, one of the first coins I actually purchased back when I was like 12, I bought it because I thought it looked like JFK was sneezing lol).
