AHH.. A beautiful early Lincoln.  I agree you don't see many 1917's in that condition, I would give it MS-63RB.  |

Without seeing the correct color, I will take your word on the RB and give it an MS62RB. Are the spots on the coin or the holder?

I'd guess 63rb. there's a big jump at 64, so that must be where they start getting picky.

Nice details on the coin for sure. The photos show some lines all headed in the same direction, which usually means the coin has been lightly cleaned. Unfortunately lots of the early lincolns are that way. It could just be the photos though. Off of what I see I'd say AU58 details "cleaned". There is a small amount of wear on the ear and wheats.

Gosh, that's so close! And, I do see those lines. I'll go MS-63, wiped. Very market acceptable, though.

In hand, this is a nice coin (not because I bought it either). To me, either a coin is, or it isn't...no matter the owner.
Interesting on what we pick up on the high resolution pictures and blown up in size a bit. :) (which is a good thing)

eddiespin - and that is exactly why we do what we do!
I traded a little bit of 90% silver for the coin. VERY happy with the trade.
Wish my photography skills and setup would allow capturing the red that is on this coin. It will not go RD in grade, but will grade as RB.

Too much light is getting to the camera. Try backing off the light and/or turning down the camera exposure. It's cutting through the patina. The coin appears yellowish/brassy and cleaned, but I don't think it is. That's just what happens when there's too much light.
It's pretty hard to grade a coin on the border of AU and MS....even with perfect pictures. However, the 1917's are usually very detailed (portrait) in MS grades since the master dies were new in 1916. That helps us in grading.
Evidence of slight rub on both sides and the rims look like it too. Some of the beard details are missing. ONE CENT shows too much rub for an MS coin. The wheatlines are slightly rounded and the wheat grains show rub. I think the coin is AU-55/58.
