The best thing about this thread? Well, it's a toss-up - learning about and seeing all of these awesome coins OR reading posts from members that don't normally post! =)

Rarest coins I own? 1798 Large Cent (1,841,745) 1914-D LWC (1,193,000) 1926-S Buffalo nickel (970,000) None of the above are in very good condition but I love 'em anyway.

very interesting thread and I appreciate all the great coins discussed and displayed. However, "mintage" is a relative not absolute measure of rarity. The word "rare" is often times thrown around too loosely. There are lots of coins with extremely low mintage that nonetheless are readily available, if you have the funds or are willing to accept either a small flaw or a PCGS genuine holder. Let's take the 1804 bust quarter. Certainly by mintage that would be considered a rare coin. But if you check on ebay alone right now, you probably have the opportuinity to pick from 3 or more examples. Compare that to the 1804 bust dime. Now that coin, with the same general mintage as the quarter, nonetheless may make an appearance on ebay as an example maybe once a year. The quarter I would consider scarce. The dime I would consider rare. Mintages: essentially the same

I think the lowest mintage coin I own is my 1864 Large Motto Proof Two Cent Piece. Mintage is estimated at 100. Myron Kliman in his book The Two Cent Piece And Varieties estimates a proof strike survival rate of 62.5%. With 20 known to be Small Motto, that would make my coin one of approzimately 42.

Let's see 1816 AG3 Large Cent - 2,820,982 1869 FR2 Indian Head cent - 6,420,000 2000 VF30 WAM - Unknown I might (and this is probably me just wishing that it is because I'm pretty sure it isn't ) have a proof 1917 Lincoln Wheat cent. Could've owned an FR2-AG3 1912S Liberty Head Nickel (238,000), but didn't buy it last week
