That's why I posted this. I thought it might be too good to be true. I wouldn't buy it.

The seller reports similar rolls have contained mixtures of CC, O, S, and Philly coins. This roll is "guaranteed" to contain at least two BU Carson City coins and presumably the remaining coins could be any dates and mints. If we presume this roll was filled by the Carson City State Trust Bank they likely would use whatever coins were in the till at that time. As such they might not even all be uncirculated.
Current bid is approaching $300 per coin. At that price you could assemble a real uncirculated CC roll with no-problem coins in MS-62 to MS-64. You could include 1878, 1882-1884, 1890, and 1891-dated coins within that price point.

on the pcgs forum, many have said that there is no such thing and that the seller is pulling a fast one on people.

Seems odd no toned coins on the ends.

Why does this remind me of the movie "Catch Me if you Can"? Frank Abagnale Jr was better though.
It looks like to me he is recrimping the end of the rolls, if they were ever real rolls to begin with.

almost certainly a faked roll, like the ones with vdbs, three-cents, and OPA tokens on the ends. Not even a good shotgun wrap job. what's bid on two cc dollars with obverse scratches?

So far I've seen a dozen or more of these rolls offered in the past year. They are probably all faked "originals".

I wouldn't be surprised if there wasn't a team of con-artists working on selling those. Several of the bidders have a high % of their bids with that same seller. Never under estimate the lengths con-men will go to in pursuit of a dollar. If they put the same time into legitimate work they would be well off.

Below is the inquiry I made of this seller this morning. It will be interesting to read his response. Quote:Hello, your description states "The pictures are also very telling so if the roll is tampered with or an obvious attempt is made to open the roll, it will be returned and no refund will be made. ebay will be contacted as well for attempted fraud. Obviously there is no guarantee what the coins inside may be, other than the two end coins are obviously uncirculated Carson City dollars. If you open the roll, it's yours and no refund will be issued!" So, what protection from fraud by you do I as a buyer of this "original" roll of Carson City dollars. Would I need to video tape the opening of the package this roll is shipped in and the actual opening of the roll to verify that it is what you claim it is to protect myself from you. The right way to sell this roll is to open it and take the photo of the wrapper and all of the coins inside so any buyer would be confident that they are getting full value for their money.

His response to my inquiry Quote:Many of the rolls from this hoard have been listed and sold on ebay. The only thing that is for sure is that both end pieces are coins from the Carson City mint. The fact that is a sealed roll is mainly where the value is. The contents could have rare or common date pieces. That's what makes for the rarity that it is still sealed and none of us know. Obviously if you open it, I can't offer a refund because the roll will have been compromised. It may be worthwhile to open and hopefully find some ratifies, but it may not as well if the coins turn out to be more common. If you dont undrestand the reasoning, please don't bid. Thanks for your interest

Obviously none of you are gambling types. Again I say, top rated seller with a ton of feedback and its 100% positive. And those penny rolls that were mentioned...again, a numbe rof the sellers are reputable with hi ratngs. While I am a pesimistic and untrusting person, long term proof of honest dealings make mewilling to take a flyer now and again.
