You know, that got me thinking a little. I want to get a great MS-quality set, but I also really enjoy the set I've built thus far by pulling the best specimens I can find from circulation. I think I'm going to order a Dansco/Whitman album and start buying MS coins with which to populate it AND keep my set that I'm building from circulation. That's truly where the work has come into play and that set means something to me (perhaps even more than having a shiny folder of coins that I've bought for well over face), so I think I'll keep two sets. I know that means I'll likely never complete the set from circulation, but I'm ok with that. I think trading other collectors for less than MS quality ones would be acceptable in those cases.
Thoughts?

Quote: I think it would be acceptable. You are not buying them, so why not? I agree. I guess the snag is if I buy a circ coin from a collector who doesn't have anything he wants from my collection. I guess then I'm trading cash? I also wanted to see how y'all felt about keeping the two distinct albums (one for MS and one for best specimens pulled from circulation).

Quote: I know that means I'll likely never complete the set from circulation, but I'm ok with that. Do not be afraid to buy the last coins for that set! They do sell lower grade coins, you know. The business strike coins in my albums are from circulation; mostly from my own change, but many were bought from a coin dealer. I do not upgrade my coins. Once they get into the album, they are there to stay (a sentimental attachment). This is just how I do it. There is no right or wrong way.

Great looking set. with jbuck ... you get to decide how ever you want to build/store/manage your collection. Whatever works for you is what matters. Thanks for sharing the joy and the photos ... and best wishes on the final three no matter how you come across them. David

Great advice guys. Think I've made up my mind that I'll do both collections (circ & MS). :) Now...off to the bank for a box of nickels and a quick stop at the coin store on the way.... ;)
Good luck with your album, kylecolb! I love it in the folder already and I think it'll look even better in your Dansco when you get it. Good job.

Just picked up my 2nd box of nickels from the bank at lunch. Hopefully can fill a hole or 10 with that box and make mine look more like kylecolb's. Now...I guess I'll be ordering that Dansco here shortly and working on the MS set. * rolls up sleeves *

Speaking of trading nickels, my son and I have extras of some of the semi-key dates, but need more of the rare five.
What we have extras of:
1951S 1955P 1949S 1950P 1948S 1946S 1942D and also 1938P
What we need more of:
1950D 1939D 1938S 1938D 1939S
Anyone interested in trades?

Nice set kylecolb! I had to buy my 1950-D at the coin shop. But I got a great price on it and my set is complete!

Congradulations on a nice looking set. However: Quote: need the 39 d and 3, and the 50 d and I'm done! There is no such thing in coin collecting as I'm Done. Maybe a little breather but never, ever really done.
