Developing My Newest Coin Product! Verdi-Care

I don't have a better original BEFORE other than the one posted.

I see all the green has gone and the cloudy haze on the coin as well. I think underneath it was probably darker. Obviously it appears darker now and I am quite pleased with my Seated quarter after using the Verdi-Care.
I think it did a great job of cleaning off the problems.
It also looks to have brought out more detail.
I would grade it Fine 18 beforehand and I think it easily makes VF 20 now maybe squeeze a VF 25 out of it.
So I think it has increased in value about 5 or 10 dollars.
I think it would be a lot easier to sell now but it is part of my type set for the time being.

Another slightly more valuable coin. This coin was in my Grandpa's old Whitman album that he gave to me. I've always wanted to conserve it.....now is the time.

The coin had from light to heavy verdigris. At first the rub method didn't work very well. Next I submersed the coin and used a toothpick to prod the remaining verdigris. That also didn't do as good as I wanted so I put a couple drops on the reverse and let it sit for about 5 minutes, then I worked the toothpick for a few seconds on the heavy verdigris. Most of the verdigris was removed. The remaining verdigris is now "sealed" with ReAcT2™ and I'm confident it will halt once I put this in an Airtite. I'm going to let it dry for 24 hours on each side, rinse with acetone, then put it in an Airtite.

Tested on a Lincoln with a black, gummy-tar-like residue along the rim. Put a couple drops over the area and rubbed lightly with a toothpick for less than 2 minutes. The residue lifted right off.

The spot by the E is a carbon spot, which cannot be removed using VERDI-CARE™.

HERE WE GO AGAIN! Just like with my 1909-S VDB that I conserved with VERDI-GONE™ and received a VF-30 grade from NGC after conservation...I'm going for it once again! I'm so confident in VERDI-CARE™, I'm testing on a higher level.

Today my brother brought me his 1937 3-leg buffalo. It was my grandfathers coin that he now owns. It's had a spot of heavy verdigris on it for ages and ages. We decided today was conservation day! The entire process took less than 5 minutes. We decided to use a soak for about 3-4 minutes, with some light toothpick rubbing on the corrosion.

Unfortunately, I made one minor mistake in that I forgot to take a picture of the reverse before starting. Thankfully, I had some old pictures from 2007, so I used that full, reverse picture for the "before" shots.

Both sides were covered in a very, very light verdigris film. Of course, this was removed within about 5 seconds, I couldn't believe my eyes! The green color of the heavy verdigris spot changed to a more black color within 5 seconds as well.

Finally, here's a picture of the soak method. I simply added a few drops to each side. For the obverse I left the VERDI-CARE™ on for about 10 seconds (that's all it needed). For the reverse, I left it soaking for about 3 minutes and then lightly prodded the verdigris with a toothpick for a minute or so. Here's how it looks during a quick soak:




NOW, time for the ultimate test! I'm going to submit this conserved coin for grading to either PCGS or NGC. I think the verdigris MAY have kept it from grading. I'm praying they will now let that small corrosion spot slide. You don't know until you try and I'm willing to try!

On a bummer note....today I dropped off the buffalo to my dealer. His partner was there today so I got both of them to inspect the buffalo. Neither could tell the coin had been conserved, even after I told them what I did, that's the good news. The bad news is both of them said PCGS will 'geniune' the coin for the scratch across the reverse. I didn't think it was that bad, but both said it was and they're the experts. So.....I told them to submit it anyway. They argreed that a 'genuine' holder is fine since there's so many counterfeit 3-leggers out there. At least the coin will be authenticated. Looks like I'll have to find another candiate to submit for the VERDI-CARE™ TPG test.
